MABEL'S POV
At the hospital cafeteria, Ada had bought me a drink to calm me down. She arrived right in time to whisk Mr away and give Jason and Adeola some privacy to talk. Tiredly, I exhaled in exasperation.
"Jason's memory is like a switch, goes off and on." Releasing a huff, I leaned into my chair gazing at Ada who sat on the other side watching for my next move.
"That isn't bad at all because the only memories he has, is from the moment I came into his life. Or so I thought." Shrugging my worry off my shoulders, I lowered my face and sipped from the juice, noisily. "Yet somehow, he remembers his childhood love."
Rolling her eyes dramatically, Ada set down her leather bag.
"Exactly, childhood love. She was his best friend Mabel and most of his life was with her," She shook her head. "People don't get over that easily."
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I looked up at my cousin. "I'm jealous. They really share something beautiful, it didn't take him minutes to recognize her. That's really impressive for someone struggling with his memory."
Adaoma creased her brow.
"What exactly are you scared of?"
"Whoever said anything about being scared." I feigned ignorance but Ada spotted the fear in my eyes. "I just don't want to lose him, we've been through so much together."
Ada, placed her hand on mine soothingly.
"And you won't. You and Jason get another chance to rewrite your love story and it will be beautiful, I promise." Smiling, she winked at me.
Releasing a laugh, my cheeks heated up slightly.
"Jason said he loves me. I said I love you to him first but that's not the issue... He said he loves me and he wants us to start again and..."
Blinking countless times, Ada parted her mouth in surprise.
"Wait," she held out her hand to gesture. "You actually confessed that you love him, and you didn't wait for him to say it first?" She quizzed but I ignored the question. "Wow, I'm impressed."
"Ada that's not the issue. His memory is the issue. What if he forgets what we went through, what if he forgets that he asked to start over? What if he forgets that he loves me?"
"He won't." Her tone was firm. "That's because he never stopped remembering, it was never a memory. Everything you had with him was a reality you both lived. The love was real and the fire still burns in both your hearts, love never dies."
Her words were comforting, removing every iota of doubt in my heart. Ada truly was a witness to our love.
"I'm just concerned, about the future. I trust Jason, I do but I haven't told him about the baby yet."
"Mabel..."
"I need to be sure that he's really ready, that he's back to himself, fully hale and hearty before I ask him to father a child.
It won't work if he's memory is still like a switch.""I hear you Mabel, but he's getting his memories back right? We just don't know how long it will take and if he'll ever fully recover them."
Exhaling deeply, I took another slurp from the cup.
"He'll get all of his memories back. I'm sure of it."
Ada nodded.
JASON'S POV
The night had grown darker, the breeze only blew colder and a few stars lit up the dark clouds. In the hospital courtyard, we were surrounded by therapeutic trees, Adeola sat on a bench, legs crossed, while I remained glued to my wheelchair.
