"Take me to the rooftop
I wanna see the world
when I stop breathing.
Turning blue."

"Austin FD! Open up!" My dad pounded on the door and called out multiple times but nothing.

We had just gotten a call about a possible rattlesnake bite, with a child and a babysitter home. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any contact with the babysitter, nor did we hear any sounds inside.

My dad took a deep breath in and then scooted us back, getting ready to batter-ram the door in.

"Got anything from Dispatch?" Marjan said as she tighten one of her straps on her suspenders.

"They're supposed to be en route from dinner, but nobody can get ahold of them,
so we got Animal Control."

I shuddered at the idea of snakes slithering around your home, without you even knowing. "I hate snakes, I hate snakes, I hate snakes," I spoke under my breath but Tk and Mateo both heard. Tk smirked at me and hissed at me like he was a snake. "Ugh, shut up" I pushed Tks head that was inching closer to me and shook my head.

My dad battery rammed into the door and rushed in.

"Alright, let's find this nursery. Paul, Marjan, Mateo, you guys look upstairs. Watch your step. We're dealing with a 5-foot rattlesnake here." The 3 took off up the stairs to find the nursery and get the kid, while the other 4 of us stayed back.

"5-foot is crazy" Judd shook his head.

"Do you have a name on the babysitter?" Tk asked over the radio to the dispatcher.

"Danielle."

We all took off and started yelling Danielle's name. Our job was not only to find Danielle but to hopefully find this rattlesnake. Judd and I were walking through the living room together when we hear this aggressive hiss come from the left of us. We both jump a few feet away and held our axes up the defend ourselves. That is until we saw the sweet little eyes of an orange kitty.

"Someone's a little jumpy" Dad smiled at us two.

Judd began walking forward again. "Well, yeah. I hate snakes."

"Well, you're Cowboy Judd. I thought you grew up with snakes. Y'know, livin' and learnin'" Cap chimed jokingly.

"Yeah, that's why I hate 'em."

"And you were just laughing at me for being scared of them."

"Yeah, that's cause I know the difference between a snake and a Tk" I looked over at Judd in confusion.

"The snake is taller than Tk." Judd finished his joke and then slapped his knee. I smiled and then looked over at Tk who was shaking his head down at the floor. I looked back over to Judd and lifted my hand for a high five and he wasted no time to collect.

We continued looking for Danielle and the snake until the parents of the boy rushed in and upstairs to his nursery. My dad followed shortly after, but the other 3 of us stayed back.

I open a door that leads down the stairway and could hear this hissing already. I inhale a sharp breath and took my first step down, being weary of where I step and what I step on. I am about 4 steps down when I realize I am not only hearing one hiss, I am hearing multiple. I count to 4 and then breathe in and slowly grab my radio from my chest

"Cap. I think I found her." I take two more steps before the corner of the basement and see over 30 rattlesnakes slithering around. My stomach immediately turns and all of a sudden I feel sick, but as much as I feel like I want to run and scream and cry, my feet feel like concrete and weigh 1000 pounds each.
