Even though I didn't want to leave, I felt forced. The way Myles kept his hand around my arm as if he was directing me to the door.

Some of them said bye to me at the table, but the rest of the people including, Buck, Hen, Chim, Bobby, and Athena all walked me into the living room. Eddie decides to stay. Which definitely hurt.

"Well, It's unfortunate that you didn't get to come by the firehouse again but surely we'll see you again, hopefully working with us this time." Bobby hopefully speaks. My stomach turns. I want to work here.

I want to stay.

I nod but I can't find the energy to speak so Myles does it for me which pisses me off even more. "Yeah, we got some big decisions ahead of us for sure."

Hen and Bobby look to Athena who just stares at the man. It breaks her heart knowing she can't do anything about it.

I give my hugs and Myles gives his handshakes. The whole time I'm quiet, except for when I thank Bobby and Athena.

Bobby looks at Athena one last time before I walk out. "Wait!"

Myles and I turn back around to see Athena with her hand on her forehead. All eyes are on her.

"I totally forgot to give you this. Can you spare a minute?"

I look to Myles and then nod. He pulls me closer leaving me no choice but to jerk away. He groans quietly and whispers in my ear. "I'll be in the car."

Yeah, I don't know who this guy is but he sure is scaring the shit out of me.

I walk back down the stairs and over to Athena who is now standing by her bedroom door. She grabs onto my shoulder softly and leads me into the room. Shutting the door behind her.

"Well, I'm glad you remembered." I speak quietly as I look around the cozy room. I walk a little more in but turn around when I don't hear movement behind me. I turn around and see her watching me with careful eyes. "Is everything okay?"

"You tell me, sweetheart?"

I look to the side in perplexity and then back to her. "Excuse me?"

"Raya, a couple of months ago Carlos reached out to me. Said he needed access to a person's file."

My heart twists and I can see where this is going.

"He said he didn't have a reason to pull it up so he couldn't legally do it, since it would be an unauthorized background check. But when he asked me I didn't have to go through anyone to approve it. So I did it and sent it to him. I read through it though, just to make sure he had a reason to look through it. I think you and I both know he did."

I swallow harshly and look down to the floor. "If I don't figure this out myself, someone, some other woman could get hurt."

"The people around you can help."

I nod my head as tears well in my eyes. "I think I might be on my final straw anyway." It hurts to admit that but it's true.

I really don't want to go home tomorrow, so it's either I go home with or without Myles.

And I'm starting to think it's the ladder.

She sucks in a deep breath and moves over to her dresser and starts shuffling through it. I blink the tears down and look over to her. "What are you—"
