"Montana skies, Georgia sunsets you're
the one walking in my head
Long, long New York nights out with my friends, all I see is your silhouette"──────⊱⁜⊰──────
"You busy?" I asked as I walked into my dad's office to see him leaning back in his chair smiling at his computer.
His eyes turn to me in a surprised way and he leans forward to pause whatever her was watching.
"I thought you went home like hours ago. Why are you still here?"
I make my way to the chair and plop down and then swing my feet over the other side of the armrest. "I could ask you the same thing."
He eyes me for a second before shutting his computer and putting it in his desk drawer.
"It's your mother."
I raise my eyebrows so he knows to elaborate.
He sighs and leans forward. "She wants me to clarify our relationship."
I nod my head at him but it's a slow confused nod. "Which is?"
We stare at each other for a few seconds before he bangs his hand on the desk and points at me. "You're right, I should propose."
My eyes widen and my mouth drops. "I never said. Literally never, those words never came out of my mouth. Ever."
He talks over my denial and nods his head "Tonight when she gets home from shopping, or whatever she's doing."
"Dad do you even have a ring."
He pulls his face together and gives me a 'duh' look. "I gave her one like 20-something years ago. Why do I need to give her another one."
"That's my point, Dad, you gave her one before and it didn't work out, so what makes you think it's gonna work this time."
He looks shocked at my words so I back up my statement.
"Yes, it would be amazing for both you and Mom to get back together, and I think it would for sure heal some wounds, but the reality is that this could do more harm than what's already there."
He looks down and then calms down. "What would I do without you?"
I blow air out of my mouth and shake my head.
"Are you gonna tell me why you haven't gone home yet?"
I throw my head back and groan.
"So nosey." I swing my legs around the chair and stand up.
"No, I am not, because I don't know, but I do know you have a deck of cards in this cabinet." I make my way over to the built-in cabinet and open it to see a deck of cards along with other games. I grab the cards and flash them to my dad.
"And I also know that I have no idea how to play Gin Rummy, which correct me if I'm wrong is a 2 person card game." I walk back over to the desk and toss the cards onto his desk and stare at him as he stares at the cards.
"I know another card game we can play?"
I sit down in the chair and scoot it closer to the desk.
"It's called 52 cards pick up. Wanna play?"
I roll my eyes at him and pull the cards out of the sleeve. "Ha, Ha, that trick might have worked when I was 5, but it doesn't work now."
We both smile at each other and I hand him the cards so he can shuffle and set up the game.
