25th february 2023, morning
melbourne, australia

"are you going on a date today?" caleb blurted out the second olivia's foot crossed into the kitchen.

the brunette scowled at her friend, "what happened to good morning olivia?"

"good morning, olivia. are you going on a date today?"

"no, who told you that?" she rubbed her eyes, still sleepy. caleb passed her a mug which she filled with from black coffee from the pot.

he shrugged, "delara said you were going out with the guy you saved."

"what did i say?" delara now entered the kitchen, smiling at her roommates.

"that, liv, has a date today."

"de, it's not a date." olivia groaned, regretting telling the other girl about her picnic with aiden.

"yeah, sure it's not a date." delara motioned for olivia to pass her the coffee, "a cute guy just causally asks you to teach him how to draw on a picnic."

olivia bit down on her bottom lip, hearing it out loud it sounded more like a date. "well, it can't be. we barely know each other."

"the whole point of a date is to get to know someone better." delara rebutted.

"shit, its a date." delara grinned and nodded and caleb gave her a sympathetic smile.

olivia wasn't one for relationship. she had been in a few but nothing ever really stuck. she could never tell what the problem was; was it her or them. but the brunette was perfectly content being single, so her previous relationship fails didn't bother her much.

"don't worry, i'll help you get ready." lara said taking a bite of her pop tart.

"good luck." caleb whispered as he walked past the brunette, patting her shoulder.

olivia retreated to her room, her safe space, opening her closet to figure out what to wear. however, her lips cracked into a smile when the familiar ringtone echoed through her room.

she waited a few seconds, bopping her head to the formula 1 theme song that she had set as oscar's ringtone, before picking up.

"it's 2am in bahrain, if my math is correct, why are you awake?" oscar chuckled. he was cuddled up in his hotel bed, his blanket wrapping around him like a burrito.

"couldn't sleep. its 9am in melbourne, why are you awake?"

"i need to finish a painting for a client by 2pm and then i have a date... yay."

"oh?" olivia nodded, though not enthusiastically.

"remember wipe out guy?" oscar nodded, "well he asked me to teach him how to draw and is taking me on a picnic."

"but, you love picnics."

"yeah, our picnics." she motioned between herself and oscar, "plus, i don't know if i like him like that. i mean he's sweet, definitely, and cute kind of like a gold retriever, but i don't feel a spark."

oscar gave her a lopsided smile, "you and i both know you don't believe in all that spark and love at first sight stuff."

"point." she agreed. "ugh, you know what i don't want to talk about this. why can't you sleep?"

oscar stayed silent, the truth of the matter was that he was stressed. it was his last day of formula 1 pre-testing and he was no where near feeling comfortable in the car. he feared he wouldn't be able to perform at the level required in formula 1.

"you know you can tell me anything right? i'm here for you, piastri. what's on your mind?" olivia assured the aussie. oscar had always had problems witj opening up and expressing his feelings. the only person who could ever make him talk was olivia.

"testing has been... okay?" he started, unsure of how to word the sentence, "i just— i feel like i'm the problem. i feel no where near comfortable in the car or ready for my first race. what if i come last? what if i fail to perform? what if mclaren realises i'm not the great driver they thought they were signing?"

"okay, slow your roll. take a deep breath for me first." oscar did as she asked, "good, now listen. you are one of the beat driver's i've ever seen, and i'm not just saying that because i'm your best friend but because i've seen you drive. mclaren signing you was the beat decision they have ever made. if you keep overthinking about performing then you wont perform, it's as simple as that. so calm down and... just talk to me."

oscar grinned at the girl on his phone, "i'd be lost without you, livvy. i miss you so much and i wish you were here."

olivia rolled her eyes playfully, "i guess i miss you too, piastri. i'll be there soon."

"first race?" she nodded, "i can't wait."

the duo talked a little longer before olivia sent oscar to bed. the brunette boy refused but when he started to yawn he knew it was time to end the call.

olivia spent the rest of afternoon on her balcony finishing the landscape for a client. once she was satisfied with it she decided it was time to start getting ready.

"where is the picnic?" delara asked as olivia pulled out a brown graphic t-shirt and denim shorts.

"the beach." she held up the clothes for delara to see to which she made a face, "what?"

"its a date, you can't wear an oversized t-shirt." olivia rolled her eyes. she loved delara's fashionista brain but at the same time she couldn't care less about this 'date'.

"all the more reason to wear it!" she faked enthusiasm. delara smirked and shook her head.

"okay, but you're telling me everything when you get back." olivia agreed to this.

delara left her friend to get ready. the brunette put on her clothes and some light makeup. she texted aiden who had said he would pick her up. he texted her back almost immediately that he was almost there.

olivia waved to her friends as she left, making her way downstairs she smiled when she spotted the blonde waiting for her in a convertible.

"sweet ride." she commented as he opened the door for her.

"thank you, it's my baby."

"now i see why you love driving so much."

"ready to go?" olivia nodded as aiden flashed her a toothy smile before taking off to the beach.
