13th may 2023, afternoon
melbourne, australia

olivia's heart ached as she looked at the flood pictures from the emilia-romagna region. she had been talking with oscar asking about updates on the status of the next grand prix.

the pair had seemed to return back to normal when olivia returned to australia. they called frequently when oscar wasn't as busy and discussed every random topic they could think of. however, the one topic neither had brought up was that night.

the brunette thought back to the night in the club only a few days ago. she closed her eyes, despite being drunk she could vividly remember how oscar looked under the club lights. his features strong yet delicate making it hard for her to look away from him as they danced the night away.

olivia recounted his scent, it was some expensive perfume she couldn't quite point out but it didn't matter because he smell heavenly. the feeling of his rough hands gripping her hips over the thin fabric of her mini skirt. she remembered the touch of their noses and the closeness of their lips.

the brunette shook her head. her heart beating fast as she tried to process the thoughts in her head and the butterflies erupting in her chest just from the mere thought of her best friend.

olivia sighed, picking up her phone dialling aiden's number. the call rung and rung and rung until it reached voice mail, again. she felt a pit in her stomach. ever since she had gotten back aiden had seemingly been ignoring her. he wouldn't pick up her calls and would answer one word replies to her texts.

olivia chewed her bottom lip as she wracked her brain to think of what went wrong. ultimately, she lifted herself off her bed, slipping on her shoes as she left the apartment. if aiden wasn't going to answer her calls, she'd just have to talk to him in person.

the walk to aiden's apartment wasn't too long. on the way over, olivia reiterated in her head what she would say when face to face with her boyfriend, whom she hadn't seen in weeks.

she took a breath before ringing the bell, fidgeting with her birth flower necklace as she waited for the door to open.

"i bet it's the pizza!" olivia heard who she remembered to be his roommate, mason. the door swung open and mason's goofy grin immediately fell, "nevermind, it's not the pizza."

"who is it then—" aiden's eyes locked with his girlfriend who gave him an awkward wave. the pair didn't say anything as they stared at each other.

"um... i actually think i forgot something in my car so i'm just gonna.. go." mason quickly slipped past olivia and rushed down the stairs to escape the palpable tension between the couple.

"hey..."

"what are you doing here, olivia?" the brunette frowned hearing her full name from aiden's lips.

"i got back two days ago and you were ignoring my calls. i just thought i'd come over and see what's wrong."

"i've been busy." he replied, emotionless.

"with what?"

"work? what else." aiden sassed.

"i didn't know you got a job. where is it?"

"the beach actually, as a lifeguard. ironic isn't it. they gave me your job since you disappeared for weeks." the blonde said bluntly.

olivia sighed, "about that aiden, i'm sorry—"

"no, you know what? save you apology." he spat.

"whoa." olivia was shocked at his outburst, "i understand you're upset i've been gone for so long and without explanation but trust me it wasn't my choice. i didn't even know why i couldn't come home until a few days ago." olivia huffed, defending herself. she crossed her arms over her chest as she stared at her boyfriend.

aiden scoffed, "you're joking right? you really think i'm this upset because you were gone a week longer then you were supposed to?"

olivia shrugged, "i don't know what else there is for you to be upset about."

"you're unbelievable." aiden muttered. he pulled out his phone, olivia could see him typing but she didn't know what. not until he turned the phone towards her opened on an article. an article about her and oscar.

"you know i knew oscar was threatened by me but i didn't think this could happen, and i definitely didn't think you could do something like this. i guess i just thought you were better then that."

olivia eyes widened at the photograph in the article, it was from the club and showed her and oscar dancing very intimately with each other.

"aiden i can explain."

"what is there to explain?" he sighed, "i had this small feeling in the back of my head that day, when i first met him, i could tell there was something there. i should have never doubted my instincts."

"aiden, i promise you nothing happened that night."

"that picture says otherwise."

"yes, okay we were dancing like that. but i promise you i stopped it before anything could go further. you have to believe me." olivia heard her voice crack slightly.

"the fact that you had to stop it just goes to show there was something that was starting." aiden shook his head, "i like you olivia. i really like you, but i cant do this. i cant wait here while you go traveling around the world with him, especially not when i know he has feelings for you... and you clearly have them for him too."

olivia felt a tear prick her eye, aiden's words echoing though her head. "aiden... i'm so sorry."

"so am i. bye olivia."

olivia stood staring at the closed door for a moment. one singular tear streaming down her cheek, that's all there was. her heart ached but it was small, almost nothing. instead she could feel it flutter. it fluttered as she though of him.

oscar piastri made olivia alvarez' heart flutter.
