miami, floridait was race day in miami and olivia was anxious. most believed it was due to the race, oscar had had a pretty awful qualifying starting at the back of the grid in p19. however, olivia could care less about the race at that moment.
the real reason the brunette was pacing in the mclaren hallways was because of the text she received from her father.

i love you honey ❤️olivia had tried calling her father after reading his messages but it had gone straight to voice mail. she could feel her heart beat quickening, her palms getting sweaty and her hands shaky.
olivia booked it down the hall farther into the papaya garage. she held her arms close to her body and her head low as she manoeuvred through the mclaren employees towards oscar's driver room.
she reached for the handle put pulled her hand back when a sob escaped her lips. she struggled to control her breathing as she managed to bang on the door.
oscar opened, worried etched on his features which only became worse upon seeing the brunette falling apart. the aussie quickly strung into action, knowing exactly what to do.
his arms wrapped around the girl tight as he pulled her into the room, closing and locking the door. his strong grip on her upper body helped stop her violent shakes as he shushed her.
oscar pulled away bringing olivia to the couch where he helped her through her breathing exercise. olivia intertwined their hands as guided her to steady herself.
"9.. breath in... hold... breath out.. 10." olivia paced herself, "better?" she only managed a nod but that was good enough for her best friend. "oh, liv."
oscar once again pulled her in, letting her bury her head into his chest. it was only now the olivia had a hold of her senses that she realised the australian was in his race suit and fireproofs.
"oh god. when does the race start?"
oscar checked the clock, "i have 30 minutes."
"you have to go—"
"no i don't."
"but—"
"liv, what happened?" she shook her head.
"i'll tell you after your race. oh my god, you're going to be late!" oscar sighed.
"hey, it's okay," he noticed the girl on the verge of another panic, "don't worry. i'm going, i won't be late. just— promise me you'll tell me everything after the race."
olivia nodded, getting on her feet but having to catch herself due to losing balance. oscar did feel comfortable leaving her alone but he did have to go.
"yes, i promise." she nodded, still a little disorientated from her sobbing.
"here, come with me. i want you to stay with charlotte till i get back. okay?" olivia took the rookie driver's hand as he led her towards the pr offices.
oscar knocked on charlotte's door, the blonde woman greeting them with a smile. olivia stood by the door as oscar whispered to the older woman. charlotte nodded sending the girl another smile as oscar turned to leave.
"i'll see you after the race." oscar whispered to the brunette, leaning down to press a soft kiss on the side of her temple.
p19. on the bright side, the aussie hadn't lost any places from where he started the race but he also hadn't gained any places.
oscar sighed as he pulled himself out of the cockpit of the mcl60. he listened to his race engineer half heartedly, his mind occupied with only one person.
olivia hid away in oscar's driver room. the brunette couldn't help but wonder if his bad result was her fault. her frazzled thoughts pounded in her head as her fingers played with the birth flower necklace she wore.
"there you are." oscar sighed of relief when he entered to see olivia curled up on the small couch.
"i'm so sorry—" oscar was taken aback by her words.
"what are you apologising for?"
"your race." olivia let out a shaky breath, "i'm sorry if what happened before distracted you from performing today. i didnt—"
"liv, what would ever make you think you ruined my race?" the brunette didn't respond as the aussie stepped closer to her. oscar sat beside her placing his hand on her knee tracing circles over her jeans. "you are the reason that mt races go well. the thought of seeing you cheering for me and proud of me after a good race, thats what makes me want to do well. you could never ruin my race."
"i love you, oscar." the brunette blurted out but it wasnt a mistake. she really did love him.
oscar's lips turned up, "i love you too."
the pair remained in silence for a few moments, oscar's hand never retracting from its place. olivia was the first to speak up, "my dad finally messaged me back... he said he's been keeping me away from home for my safety. something to do with my mom."
"did he say anything else?"
"no. just that he will call me tomorrow and explain everything."
oscar scooted closer, pulling olivia in from the side. the brunette comfortably situated herself in her best friend's lap letting her head snuggle into his chest. "it's all going to be okay."
olivia nodded, she took a deep breath, letting all her worries fade away as oscar held her in his arms.
she felt safe, like everything was truly going to be okay.
