When Tuesday arrived, they took a taxi together to get to the Moriya Mansion. Mouri sat in the passenger seat while the other three sat in the back.
Since it was Golden Week, school was closed, so they were able to arrive early to the garden party after putting on something more presentable.
The manor was four floors high with pale green walls and blue tiles on the roof. Surrounding the large structure and its lands was a fence made of bricks that had a golden color. The fence's iron gate was open. There were only two guards dressed in red uniforms standing at the entrance to prevent anyone from just waltzing in.
As soon as the taxi came to a stop, Conan was the first to rush out.
"Conan-kun, wait! We need the invitation!" Ran went after the boy, trying to stop him before he began causing trouble as usual.
[Name] let Ran grab the boy while she searched for the invitation inside her bag and gave it to one of the security guards. The guard smiled at the group, greeting them before letting them in.
"Enjoy yourselves!"
Conan wasted no time in trotting at the front. Right behind him was the grinning Mouri, his head held high as he went forward with a posture full of pride. It was as if he had been the one personally invited and not Shinichi.
Crossing the fence was a stone staircase that only had six or so steps. Once one reached the top, they would be able to take in an unobstructed view of the whole mansion.
The front garden had no flowers, only bushes and tall arborvitaes. On the very center of the path that led to the manor was a fountain that was painted gold.
"Wow!"
"Truly a building from 17th century England's House of Stewart era!" Mouri smirked, hands on his hips. It was a rare instance for Ran to see her father being so knowledgeable, "You know a lot about architecture, Otousan."
[Name] was a little more skeptical of his sudden knowledge, "Someone must have really done his homework before coming."
"I'm just someone that knows these types of things. I was once known as the Walking Library! More importantly, look closely at the left and right sides." Mouri motioned with his index finger.
Ran did as he said, looking from one side to the next. As she did, her amazement only grew. "Hey, look! When you stand in the middle, the left and right sides look the same. The garden and the building."
"This is what they call 'symmetry'. Professor Moriya lived in England until high school, so he is quite fond of English-style architecture. In particular- In particular, uhh..." Mouri reached into his pocket, discreetly glancing down at an open notepad with letters written all over the pages. "His keenness for classical-style symmetry is remarkable!"
As sneaky as he thought he was being, it didn't escape the eyes of [Name] and Conan. Although they couldn't believe what they were seeing, they had to admit they weren't that surprised either. So, he's using a cheat sheet...
Having remembered the rest of his notes, Mouri kept talking in a very serious tone, just like a teacher giving a lecture, "He even changed how he writes 'Teiji' to give his name symmetry!"
His name was originally Genji which used the characters "貞治", but he switched it to the more symmetrical, Teiji, "帝二". Luckily, his surname, Moriya, was already symmetrical as it was written with the "森谷" characters, so he didn't have to change that as well.
Conan crossed his arms behind his head, Almost sounds like a disease...
It was precisely like OCD. A complete obsession with things being as they should without an inch of error. If it was wrong, then it had to be fixed. Even if it was extremely bothersome and it only made things harder for the person, they still had to fix it.
