He was always so quiet. Quite the opposite of his best friend, Bokuto. But that only intrigued Y/N even more. It wasn't like the two were strangers, in fact they are good friends. Making it that much easier for Y/N to feed her curiosity about the boy.
"Hey hey hey!" Bokuto clapped his hands down on Y/N's shoulders. His smile and the positive excited energy radiating off of him was contagious. Y/N cracked a smile as she looked over her shoulder.
"Hey Kotaro, hey Kenji." Y/N greeted them. "How was the meeting?" It wasn't noticeable, but Y/N's eyes lingered on Akaashi slightly longer than necessary. She couldn't help it, he intrigued her. The pair had been friends for five years now, but Y/N could never figure out what he was thinking. Hell, Bokuto had only joined their trio two years ago and Y/N could read him like an open book. She always knew exactly what he was thinking, but with Akaashi it was another story.
"It was fine." Fine? What did that mean? Did it go well? Was it a horrible experience? Boring beyond all belief? Y/N couldn't help but wish that Akaashi would give her something to work with. His answers are always so vague and he comes off as uninterested. But Y/N knew that wasn't the case. So what was he thinking? It frustrated Y/N so much that she couldn't read Akaashi. Somewhere along the line of their five year friendship, that frustration led to Y/N reading into Akaashi's every move.
Growing up, Y/N had always been a quiet child. And from a young age, Y/N learned that she was able understand people, to predict what they would do or say next, and even sometimes correctly guess what they were thinking. She began to depend on this ability and soon Y/N was obsessed with being able to accurately read everyone she came across. And she did so with an alarming success rate. But then came Akaashi in her first year of middle school. A boy she couldn't read at all. Everytime she thought she was close, Akaashi would do something completely unexpected.
"Coach gave us the day off. Let's go do something fun!" Bokuto exclaimed.
Y/N blinked. Her idea of fun didn't always match Bokuto's. "Fun? Like what?"
How had Akaashi and Y/N been dragged into this? In what world was breaking into an abandoned building considered fun?
"Kotaro, this is a really bad idea."
Bokuto ignored Y/N and wrapped his arms around his body with a shiver. "They say this place is haunted." He commented. "Do you think we will see any ghosts?"
Akaashi rolled his eyes. He was completely with Y/N on this one. This was a stupid idea and someone could get seriously hurt. "I doubt we will see any ghosts Bokuto." He avoided saying anything else on the matter. If he did they would risk the chance of one of Bokuto's mood swings. And knowing depressed Bokuto, he would most likely runoff in the abandoned building by himself.
"You are no fun Akaashi." Bokuto pouted. "What about you Y/N, do you think we will see some ghosts?"
"Maybe." Y/N hummed unenthusiastically. Afraid any other answer would upset her friend. Bokuto had clearly already made up his mind about going in. There was nothing they could do but go along with him now.
The trio quickly entered the building to avoid being spotted. It was dusty and dark, but Y/N didn't feel unsafe. In fact, the place seemed harmless so far.
"Alright, let's go look around." Bokuto pulled out three flashlights and distributed them to his friends. The trio switched on their flashlights and headed down a dark hallway. The hallway was filled with doors, most of which were left open. But it was vacant of windows.
The further the trio traveled, the more insecure Y/N grew. The building was growing colder by the second, and as much as Y/N hated to admit it, she was uneasy. Something about the building had changed and it no longer seemed harmless. She quickly blamed Bokuto and all of his talk about ghosts. It didn't help that Bokuto would jump every five seconds.
"I am going to look around upstairs." Bokuto announced. "You two should stay down here and keep a look out." Without waiting for any kind of confirmation, Bokuto ran off into the darkness. Leaving Y/N and Akaashi alone.
Y/N rolled her eyes. "Since we are already here, we should go ahead and check out some of these rooms." Akaashi nodded his head but remained silent, allowing Y/N to lead the way. She couldn't tell what he was thinking, but it was clear that he didn't object to this idea. It made Y/N wonder what Akaashi had thought of Bokuto's bright idea. Had he thought it sounded fun? This didn't sound like anything Akaashi would enjoy but he always seemed to catch her off guard.
The pair explored in silence. Entering each and every door they came across, but came across nothing. Suddenly the pair heard footsteps. "Hey! Who's in here?" The individual called out.
Akaashi acted quickly, pulling himself and Y/N inside of a small closet. It was a tight fit, Y/N's chest pressed against Akaashi's. Y/N's rapid breathing was muffled by Akaashi's hand. "Calm down," Akaashi whispered, his breath tickling her neck. He seemed so calm. How could he be calm in a situation like this?
Unconsciously, Y/N placed both of her palms on Akaashi's chest. His eyes held an unreadable emotion as he stared down at Y/N, his heart rate increasing. Was it her touch that was making him react like this? For the first time, Y/N understood Akaashi. He was attracted to her. And in this very moment, locked in a small closet and their bodies touching, he couldn't hide it. Y/N couldn't help but wonder if Akaashi had imagined this scenario before.
In this scenario, Y/N finally realized why she was so drawn to Akaashi. She had feelings for him the entire time. Her heart fluttered. They were so close. "Kenji," she whispered. Akaashi slowly leaned down, connecting their lips in a soft kiss.
