Y/N was the very definition of Iwa's dream girl. It was his final year of college in America when he met her. Who would have thought his coach's daughter would be his age? Or be that beautiful.

It had been two months and he couldn't get her off his mind. She was all he could think about. All he wanted was to make her smile.

Iwaizumi could hardly breathe. Y/N was at their practice observing. She stood on the sideline next to her father, a tall and scary man. Y/N stood there suppressing her giggles as her father barked orders at the team. She knew just how intimidating her father could be.

Iwaizumi couldn't focus. He wanted to impress Y/N so bad, but that was hard considering the strength of his team. "Hajime, focus." One of his teammates whispered to him.

They were in the middle of a practice match, but Iwaizumi couldn't pay attention to what was happening around him. He also still wasn't used to being called by his first name. It threw him off. Everything threw him off today. "Hajime!" Someone called out.

It snapped Iwaizumi out of his trance. The setter had just sent him a perfect ball. Iwa jumped at the last second but was still able to score a point for his team. He hated to admit it but he missed Oikawa's sets. Sure his team was good, great even. But every day he found himself missing his best friend. He wondered how he was doing over in Argentina.

"Get your head out of the clouds Hajime! You earned yourself pick-up duty after practice." The coach yelled. Iwaizumi frowned and shook his head, trying to clear his racing thoughts. He needed to focus.

When the game was over, everyone began to clear out. Iwa's team had managed to win, but it was a close game. His teammates teased him ruthlessly about pick-up duty, but many offered to stay behind and help. To which Iwaizumi turned them down. It was his punishment for not paying attention to the game.

Iwaizumi was picking up balls when a figure approached him. They bent down and aided in collecting the balls silently. Iwa expected to see one of his teammates, but when he looked over he found Y/N. They were the only two left in the empty gym.

"You're Hajime, right? I think we met at the beginning of the season." Iwaizumi nodded silently. He couldn't believe Y/N, the coach's daughter, was helping him pick up after practice. She tossed the ball in her hands effortlessly into the cart.

"I think it's a little messed up that my old man gave you pick-up duty. I mean, you made the point. The fact that you weren't paying attention made it even more impressive." She rolled the cart of volleyballs to the side of the court.

"It's my fault. I should have been paying attention to the game." On the outside, Iwaizumi was as cool as a cucumber. But inside, he was in shock that his crush was speaking to him. Y/N had even remembered his name.

Iwa went to untie the net but was stopped by Y/N. "If you have some time, could I set a few for you? I haven't played in a while, and I'd love for someone to be there to receive my set again." She looked so hopeful. He found that adorable.

"I don't have anywhere to be." Y/N smiled and pulled a ball back out of the cart.

She spun the volleyball in her hands. "You ready?" She asked; to which Iwa nodded. Y/N tossed the ball over her head and prepared for it to come back down. He was captivated by her beauty.

As soon as Y/N set the ball, Iwaizumi lept into the air. The set wasn't perfect, but it was still good. Iwa's hand slammed into the ball and sent it flying onto the floor with a loud smack. He couldn't help but smile when he saw the expression on Y/N's face.

"That felt good." Y/N grinned over at him.

"Why did you stop playing?" Iwa realized how personal the question was too late. He had spoke without thinking. But Y/N didn't seem to mind.

"I tore my rotator cuff back in high school. I had surgery on it but it's never been the same since." Despite talking about a career-ending injury, Y/N's smile never faltered. She was just happy that she was able to set for someone for the first time in years.

"If you don't mind me asking," Y/N said. "What were you thinking about during practice?" Iwa tensed. He couldn't dare tell her that he was trying to figure out a way for him to stand out so that she would notice him. Instead, he opted for half the truth.

"My best friend. He plays professionally for Argentina now. I haven't seen him in person for a few years." Y/N smiled.

"Damn," she said. "And here I was hoping that it was me that made you unable to concentrate." She spoke honestly with a sheepish grin. Iwaizumi's head snapped towards her. Had he just heard her right?

That sat in silence for a moment and Y/N grew more anxious as each second passed. Finally, Iwaizumi spoke. "Maybe it was." He said this without fear, suddenly level headed. He watched as Y/N's cheeks flushed darker. Iwa grinned at her reaction and took a step closer.

Iwa took the ball out of Y/N's hands and placed it back in the cart. He hadn't even noticed her pick up a new one. Hesitantly, Iwa reached out and brushed a piece of hair behind Y/N's ear. "I've been thinking about this since we met."

"Thinking about what?"

Iwa lowered his head and let his lips brush over Y/N's. He paused for a minute, giving Y/N time to pull away. Instead, she closed the distance, smashing her lips into his.

It was a short kiss. But when they pulled away, Iwaizumi kept his forehead pressed against Y/N's. She smiled brightly at him. "I've been thinking about that too."
