Sugawara x f!reader

Sugawara is a regular at a local coffee shop near his school. He has been going there every day for months. What makes this specific coffee shop so special? The answer is simple. Y/N, the barista that greets him every morning.

Sugawara entered the coffee shop a little earlier than usual that morning. But even so, Y/N was still standing behind the counter. "Good morning, Sugawara!" She greeted with a bright smile. Sugawara matched her expression.

"Good morning, L/N!"

"I'll get started on your order right away!" Sugawara smiled at her as Y/N began fiddling with the coffee machine. He sure found her beautiful. He wanted to ask her on a date so badly but there was one thing holding him back.

Y/N approached the table with a kind smile. She placed the coffee and a muffin in front of Sugawara. "Is there anything else I can get you, Sugawara?"

Suga looked down at the cup. It read Toshi. That's right, the young woman that Sugawara was so desperately crushing on had misheard his name upon first meeting. Y/N was under the impression that Sugawara's first name was Toshi rather than Koshi. Sugawara felt a touch of disappointment. It had been months and Suga had never corrected. And how could he now?

Suga smiled up at her. "Thank you L/N, I think I'm okay for now."

Y/N smiled sweetly at him, her next words catching Suga off guard. "Not even my number? You've been coming in every day for months now and you've still never asked." She teased. Suga gapped at her.

Yes, Y/N was well aware of Sugawara's feelings toward her. She was well aware of how Suga's eyes followed her every move. She knew it all and she had for a while. The only thing that Y/N couldn't figure out, was why Sugawara had never made a move.

Y/N wanted him to. After all, Y/N felt the same way toward Sugawara as he did for her. She hadn't originally, but Suga's kindness had completely won her over. Y/N found herself looking forward to Sugawara's daily visits.

Suga's face erupted in a blush. "Have I been that obvious?" He asked, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. Y/N's teasing smile grew.

"It's kind of hard not to notice when someone's eyes follow my every move." She teased.

Sugawara's embarrassment wore off quickly. Once he gathered himself, he spoke up again. This time full of confidence. "What would you say if I asked for it?"

Y/N tilted her head. "What do you mean?"

"Your number," Sugawara clarified. "What would you say if I asked for it?"

Y/N smiled. She was hoping that Suga had meant that. "I'd give it to you on the condition that you take me out on a date." Y/N admitted. She bit the inside of her cheek while she awaited his response. Y/N's heart was pounding. She really hoped that Sugawara would just ask her out already.

Sugawara smiled. He never expected that Y/N knew of his feelings, let alone that she would return them. He liked her answer. He had wanted to take her out for a long while now. This was his chance and Suga wasn't about to screw it up.

"Well then, how could I turn down an offer like that. Can I have your number, L/N? I would love to take you out on a date sometime." Suga spoke with an unwavering smile. His eyes were lit up with amusement and hope.

Y/N returned his smile. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear before giving her response. "I'd like that Sugawara. I'd like that a lot." Y/N grabbed the marker from her apron and one of the napkins from the table. She carefully wrote down each digit, doing her best to make sure it was clear and legible. A hard task when writing on a napkin.

Y/N slid the napkin across the table, leaving it in front of Suga. The elementary school teacher smiled brightly at her. "Where would you like to go on our date?"

Y/N tapped her chin for a moment. "Perhaps a movie or a sports game?"

Suga lit up even more at her answer. "I just so happen to have an extra ticket to see the MSBY Black Jackals. Would you like to come with me?"

Amazement flickered across Y/N's face. "As in the Division One volleyball team? How did you manage to get tickets?"

Sugawara shrugged. "An old teammate of mine is on the team. He gave me the tickets. Would you like to come?"

Y/N nodded eagerly. "I would love to!"

"Great! I'll send you the details." Suga said. Y/N smiled with a nod. She turned to leave in order to get back to work but was stopped by Sugawara's voice. "Oh, and L/N. My name is Sugawara Koshi."

Y/N's eyes widened. In horror, she looked down at the cup. "Sugawara Koshi?" Suga nodded with a teasing smile. A blush lit up her face. How had she gotten his name wrong all of this time? "Sugawara, I am so so-"

Suga laughed. "Don't worry about it."
