Kageyama is in love, something that he never thought would happen. It happened suddenly. He hadn't even realized that he had feelings for Y/N before he fell in love with her. It was funny really. Kageyama had always been oblivious, but this was a new level even for him.

Y/N was a friend from high school. Despite Kageyama being arrogant, short-tempered, and unable to properly socialize, Y/N stuck around. She put up with him. Listened to his unintentional insults. Laughed at his anger. Smiled at his prideful comments. She was perfect for him.

It is true that Kageyama has had a lot of personal growth since middle school, and had become aware of a lot of his flaws, but Y/N doesn't seem to mind them. She always welcomes him with open arms. She doesn't judge or pressure him. She simply enjoys Kageyama's company.

Y/N is beautiful, kind, caring, accepting, and everything and more than Kageyama could ever want. She is everything to him, and by far his best friend. Kageyama knew that their friendship alone made him an incredibly lucky guy. But he couldn't help but want more. There was something about Y/N that Kageyama couldn't get enough of. He loves her. He truly loves her.

There was no significant event that caused Kageyama to fall in love with Y/N. There was no special story to tell. Kageyama just knew. One day he was randomly thinking about his best friend and was overwhelmed by feelings of warmth and happiness. Then he started thinking about her lips. How we wondered what they tasted and felt like. Surely they tasted like that chapstick she was always wearing.

That was when it struck him. Kageyama was helplessly in love with his best friend. There was no avoiding it, and surprisingly he didn't want to. Not that he would ever make a move himself. He wasn't sure how. Kageyama was new to this. He never dated. All Kageyama ever cared about was volleyball before Y/N came into his life.

Kageyama wondered what the future would look like now that he is in love. He never gave the future much thought before. All that mattered was volleyball. He never thought about having a family. But now his feelings for Y/N were changing his perspective. Kageyama was now thinking about things that he had never previously considered.

It was refreshing really. Kageyama always thought of love as a distraction from the one thing that really mattered in his life. But that wasn't true. Kageyama discovered that he had room for both. His feelings for Y/N hadn't affected his passion for volleyball in the slightest. He was simply now considering expanding other aspects of his life.

"Tobio," Y/N whispered. "You've been staring at me for the past five minutes. Is there something on my face?" Her delicate voice snapped Kageyama out of his thoughts. He hadn't realized that he was staring at Y/N. They were currently at his place watching a movie. Kageyama hadn't even realized that he had zoned out.

Kageyama shook his head. "If nothing is on my face, then what were you thinking about?" Y/N asked. Kageyama met her E/C eyes, almost getting lost in them. Almost. Kageyama cleared his throat and straightened up. Tearing his eyes away from Y/N.

"Volleyball," Kageyama lied.

Y/N rolled her eyes, mumbling an insulting nickname that she had picked up from Hinata Shoyo back in high school. "Bakayama, you had me worried there." Y/N breathed. She turned her attention back to the movie.

They sat in silence for a while longer, but Y/N could feel Kageyama's gorgeous blue eyes staring her down. She fought back a smile. "Tobio?" Y/N asked again. The setter hummed. She met his gaze with a look of mischief in her eyes. "Close your eyes," she said.

Kageyama recoiled in shock. "What?" He asked as if Y/N had just said the most ridiculous thing. Y/N rolled her eyes again. She had expected that response from him.

"Close your eyes Tobio," Y/N repeated. Kageyama gave her a weird look, but did as he was told and forced his blue eyes shut. Y/N sat there and examined his face closely. Kageyama could feel her breath on his face. She admired his long lashes, feelings a slight bit of jealousy. She admired the markings on his skin. They weren't quite freckles but small spots of discoloration. Y/N couldn't help but think about how gorgeous Kageyama was.

Kageyama kept his eyes closed, waiting for whatever Y/N had planned. His heart rate increasing with every passing moment. Then he felt something brush his lips. It's was soft and smooth, but almost felt as if it was covered in Vaseline. Or chapstick. Kageyama almost opened his eyes at the realization.

Then they fully pressed against Kageyama's lips and he was sure of it. It was Y/N's lips pressed against his own. Y/N was kissing him. Thankfully it wasn't Kageyama's first kiss so he knew how to respond.

Kageyama finally opened his eyes as Y/N pulled away. She was smiling softly at him. Kageyama opened his mouth but no words came out. "You were staring at my lips," Y/N explained.

Kageyama mumbled a quiet, "shut up" before leaning back in for another kiss.
