She checked her watch as she rushed through the streets. Y/N was running late. She was supposed to have met Bokuto, one of her dear friends, five minutes ago.
Y/N hasn't seen Bokuto in a while, so she felt incredibly guilt about arriving late. She and Bokuto had been neighbors growing up. And although they went to different high schools, they had stayed close.
Y/N cursed herself for running late. She had been so caught up in getting ready, that she lost track of time. Y/N had wanted to make herself look nice considering Bokuto had booked them a lunch reservation at a nice restaurant. She also just doesn't see much of Bokuto any more since he went pro.
Y/N arrived at the restaurant ten minutes late. A restaurant that was a fifteen minute walk from her house. Next time, Y/N told herself, she would remember to set an alarm when she has plans.
"How can I help you?" Y/N looked up at the young woman sitting behind the counter. She was relatively tall and wore a kind smile.
"I'm here to meet someone. He should have a reservation under Bokuto." The woman's eyes lit up. She remembered that name. Since she saw the reservation in the books, the woman had been looking forward to it.
"Oh yes! I actually just sat that table. If you follow me, I can take you there." Y/N straightened up and followed after the hostess.
They arrived at a table sitting a man that Y/N didn't recognize. "I think there has been a mistake." Y/N politely interjected. The man looked up from his phone and looked equally surprised to see Y/N standing there.
The hostess smiled. "You are here for the reservation under Bokuto Kotaro, correct?" Y/N and the stranger confirmed this at the same time. The two looked at one another again in surprise. "Well this is the table reserved under Bokuto." The hostess smirked. "There is even a note. It says enjoy your blind date."
Y/N's eyes went wide. Bokuto had set her up on a blind date? Without her approval first? It wasn't too terribly surprising considering Bokuto has been asking a lot of questions about her love life recently. But Y/N was constantly reassuring him that she wasn't lonely.
The man sighed. "Sounds like a stunt that idiot would pull." He looked up at Y/N apologetically. "If you would like to leave, I completely understand."
"It's fine," Y/N reassured. "We might as well at least enjoy our lunch." The man nodded and Y/N took a seat at the table.
The hostess clapped her hands together. "Fantastic! What can I get you two to drink?" The hostess didn't bother to hide her excitement. She had been looking forward to this all day.
Y/N and the man both ordered a water. After that, they sat in silence until the hostess walked away. "I'm Akaashi Keiji." The man introduced. He reached his hand out to Y/N.
"L/N Y/N," she smiled sweetly. "If you don't mind me asking, how do you know Kotaro?" Y/N asked. She was beyond curious about the man that her friend had decided to set her up with while playing matchmaker.
Akaashi lightly smiled back at her. "Bokuto and I played volleyball together back in high school. We've been friends since." Y/N nodded. She vaguely remembered Bokuto mentioning Akaashi before. He had told her that they were best friends. "How do you two know each other?" Akaashi asked.
"Kotaro and I were neighbors growing up. I'm sure you know how he is, always so friendly. We ended up going to different high schools, but Kotaro and I have always stayed in touch." Akaashi nodded. He knew exactly what Y/N was talking about. "What do you do for work, Akaashi?"
Akaashi smiled. He enjoys talking about his job, so he was glad that Y/N bothered to ask. "I'm an editor for shonen." Akaashi admitted. He watched with amusement as Y/N's eyes widened.
"That's amazing!" Y/N praised. "That must be so much fun! Do you enjoy working for them?"
Akaashi nodded. "I really do. It's really interesting getting to work with some of the creators. Especially the more well known ones. They put a lot of effort into their work and it's my job to help them polish it."
Akaashi hated to admit it, but he was kind of enjoying the look of astonishment on Y/N's face. He may not have ended up in the department that he originally wanted, but he truly does enjoy his job. "What do you do for work, L/N?"
Y/N completely lit up at the question. She takes a lot of pride in her job and was more than happy to share what she does for a living. "Coincidentally, I work at a Web Comic designer."
Akaashi raised an eye brow. "What does that entail? I know that everything is transitioning to digital, but I don't know much about the Web Comic world." He admitted.
"Essentially, I work with authors to bring their story to life. The authors create their story and characters however they want and I handle the art and turn the story into manga format." Y/N explained.
"If you don't mind me asking, why do you work specifically with Web Comics?"
Y/N smiled. The answer to that was pretty simple. "Web Comics allow access to a greater audience. But I also prefer it because I am able to color the panels. I can't imagine going back to simply line art. It's far more time consuming, but I enjoy it."
Akaashi nodded. The pair continued getting to know each other effortlessly. They had really clicked. Before they knew it, they had been talking for almost two hours. Even though they had just finished their food, neither one of them really wanted their little blind date to end.
"L/N?"
"Yes, Akaashi?" Y/N looked at him with a gentle smile. She was really enjoying his company. She hated to admit it, but Bokuto had done a fantastic job setting them up. Akaashi seemed like a great match for her. And the best part was that it seemed like the feeling was mutual.
"If it's okay with you, I would really like to take you out again."
Y/N smiled widely. She knew that she was supposed to play it cool, but Y/N didn't care. She let her excitement show freely. "I would love that Akaashi. I really would."
