At the gym class exam

"Students of group 5 please follow me to the hurdle race station" Mr Faller says loudly. There are 6 groups, always on 6 different stations so they can speed up the progress and no one has to wait too long and cool down again.

The only thing they did all together was the warm up and condition run where he, Rachel and a boy named Sam pushed through together before being lucky and getting into the same group. Group 5.

Once at the station Rachel, Kurt and Sam, their new found friend, wish each other luck. Sam just moved here to Lima so he haven't heard all the back talking about Kurt yet. Maybe there's actually a chance he and Rachel have found a new friend in Sam.

Everyone goes on position and runs at the signal. One hurdle. Kurt hates this. He's sweating and exhausted and how are you supposed to get over these things without tripping and falling over and still be fast?

Second hurdle. Sam is far ahead. How does he do that? But okay he seems rather sporty. Rachel is behind him, a bit slower than him.

Third hurdle. Oh no. He trips and falls over, using his hands and arms to not fall on his face.

Krack.

Kurt cries out in pain before rolling to the side of the station so he doesn't also gets stepped on. In no time Mr. Faller is with him asking him what hurts. "My ankle and my wrist but my wrist more" Kurt answers, holding back tears of pain.

Sam, who by now finished the race second kneels down next to him for emotional support while Mr. Feller gets another teacher to watch the rest of the kids while he stays with Kurt. First he thought he could just drive him to the hospital or call his father to do it but Kurt can't even stand or walk without being in pain more than he already is. Quickly Mr Faller decides to call the boys dad and the ambulance.

Two hour later Kurt finds himself in a hospital bed. He got something against the pain and had to do some tests but now the doctor is finally there with the results. Burt is next to his son, listening closely but Kurt doesn't understand a thing.

The nurse that is also in the room seems to have noticed that because she bends down to him and explains kindly "Your right ankle that hit the hurdle bend over but it isn't that bad. It'll hurt for a week or maybe two but we put a brace on your ankle so you can walk.

Your left arm is a bit more hurt. You tried to catch yourself hm?". "Mhm" Kurt nods and the nurse continues "But you couldn't and a bone in your wrist broke in a way that won't heal naturally. You have the have a little surgery but I promise only very little so the doctor can fix your wrist again".

Kurts eyes widen at the thought of a surgery but his dad takes his hand and says "It's okay bud. You're a big boy, you can do this". Kurt relaxes a bit from his dads affection and tries to listen to the conversation between the doctor and his dad.

"So when is the surgery doc?" Burt asks, not letting go of Kurts hand anymore. "We have a free space tomorrow morning at 8. You can chose if your son stays here or goes home until tomorrow morning 7 am" the doctor answers.

Burt looks to his son "Would you be okay here? Because otherwise we would have to go at 6 or so to be here in time and stand up at 5 something". "Yeah I'll be okay here" Kurt nods. It's easier for both of them. "Okay then I'll go home to get you some stuff from home" Burt says and asks the doctor "How long does he need to stay after the surgery?". "A night for observation and so we can be sure that the the anesthesia wears off properly" the doctor answers, seeing the othe rman nod.

"Okay buddy I drive home now and get you some stuff from home. Any wishes?" Burt asks, now turned to his son again. "My book and maybe if Blaines answer is there already then his letter and something to answer" Kurt answers.

The next letter should come within the next few days. He needs to tell Blaine about what happened. That he found a new reason to hate sport and gym class.

About an hour later Burt comes back and brings Kurt some fresh clothes, his book and phone charger. The internet connection inside the building is terrible but at least he can listen to the music he has downloaded or call his dad in the evening if he needs him or so.

"There was no letter yet but it should be there when you're home again" Burt says smiling. He knows how much Blaine means to Kurt, even tho the boys have never met before.

Burt stays with his son until visiting hours are over. He wishes his son a goodnight and makes him promise to call if he needs him. He'll come again before the surgery and stays until this time tomorrow. And the day after he can pick Kurt up again and take him home.

Shortly after Burt left there's a knock on the door and the nurse from before comes in, bringing dinner with her "This is all you get now and please don't drink anything anymore after 10 pm so your stomach is empty for the surgery. Tomorrow you will get lunch after the surgery". "Thanks" Kurt mumbles and sits up to eat.

"My shift ends now but I'll be back for your surgery tomorrow. Sleep well Kurt" the nurse says and leaves the room after Kurt answered "Good night".

Kurt looks after her and then opens YouTube to watch some videos while eating. After that he can read his book. Luckily it's his left arm that got hurt because he can't imagine holding a book with the left hand as a right handed person. Plus he can still write letters to Blaine.
