After the game, Michael drove us to his parents’ house. I haven’t seen his parents in a while so it will be nice to have a catch up and let them meet Jacey.
We pulled up on the drive and Michael got Jacey from the car whilst I got the bags as we were staying overnight there.
We walked side by side up to the door and I gently knocked on the glass. Soon enough, a familiar smile appeared on the opposite side of the door. I smiled back to Lynn, Michael’s mother.
‘’Alice dear, Michael! Come in, come in!’’ she said, stepping aside, allowing us to come into the warm, cosy house. ‘’Vince, Alice and Michael are here! Come downstairs!’’ she called. We soon heard a pounding of footsteps and Vince, Michael’s father, soon appeared at the doorway to the lounge.
‘’Ah hello Alice, Michael and I believe this is little Jacey?’’ Vince said, sitting on the left side of Michael and peering into the bundle Michael was holding close to him.
‘’Yeah, this is Jace’’ Michael said with a huge smiled on his face
‘’Sorry about not coming to visit earlier, it’s been quite stressful getting the hang of being a parent and then the whole court thing to deal with…’’ I explained. Lynn cocked her head to the side and I took the hint and followed her to the kitchen
‘’Oh Alice, don’t you worry your pretty little head about a thing’’ Lynn said, ‘’Everything will be alright, trust me’’ she smiled softly and I smile back
‘’I just can’t bear to think of Jacey being left with Cristiano and whatever girl he’s with then…I know that sounds like I’m a snob since I was ‘his girl’ for a short time…it’s all my fault we’re in this mess, I should’ve just listened to Michael’’ my voice turned weak and shaky as my head fell into my hands, I let the tears fall. I felt a soft hand on my back and lifted my head up.
‘’It’s not your fault at all sweetie, Michael is a good boy and you are a good girl, everyone makes mistakes, don’t beat yourself up about it’’
‘’Thanks, but none of this wouldn’t happened if I’d of just listened to Michael…’’ I sniffed and she handed me a tissue. Lynn walked out of the room and a few moments later, Michael walked in. He stood in the doorway and looked at me.
‘’Please, please don’t cry’’ he finally said, coming over and enveloping me into a long hug. I took in the scent of his aftershave and cracked a small smile. ‘’I hate it when you cry’’ he softly whispered into my hair
‘’I know, and I’m sorry, I just can’t help it, when I think of my little boy with Cristiano or all alone I just…cry’’ I mumbled
‘’I know, you won’t have to for long though, the court hearing is tomorrow, can we forget about everything and try and enjoy being with Jacey?’’
‘’Why? Because it’s our last night with him…?’’ I said sarcastically
‘’No, it’s not at all, Jacey stays with us and I won’t stop until he is, I know how much he means to you and he’s starting to have the same effect on me, that little boy is amazing’’
‘’He sure is…you know if we win the case?’’ I started, a little happier than I was a few minutes ago. That’s how it was. Michael could change my mood from bad to good in an instant.
‘’Yeah…?’’
‘’Can we change Jacey’s last name to Carrick?’’ I looked up into Michael’s eyes and he smiled. He smiled his perfect smile that I could tell was genuine because it reached his eyes.
‘’If that’s what you want, then yes’’
‘’Of course that’s what I want! My little boy to have the same last name as the man I love, it’s all I want’’ we stared intently into each other’s eyes before falling into a deep and passionate kiss.
‘’I love you, Alice’’ Michael whispered, still holding me close to him
‘’And I love you to, Michael’’.
