-2 DAYS later-

Jacey’s been having a really good time here with Cristiano. They’re so happy together and I guess I just like seeing them together. Although it does remind me of when Jacey and Michael were like that. He used to take such good care of Jacey…

I was sat on the sofa with Cris. It was late night and Jacey was asleep in his bed. We were watching some kind of old film that really neither of us were watching. We were on our iPads.

Then, my phone began to ring. It was Wayne. I sighed. He better not be ringing on Michael’s behalf.

‘’Hello?’’ I answered

‘’Alice, it’s Wayne’’

‘’Yeah, I have caller ID?’’ I said in a ‘duh’ tone and chuckled

‘’Look, this is serious. Have you had any texts or calls from Michael in the past 24 hours?’’

I checked my messages, a few of them brought tears to my eyes. Saying he loved me, still.

‘’No, why?’’

‘’Oh God…’’ he trailed off

‘’What? Why? Wayne, what’s going on?’’

I heard him breathe on the other end of the phone. Nothing but breathing. ‘’Wayne?’’

‘’Michael hasn’t been at training today. We checked the house, his cars not there. He won’t answer his phone. He’s not at his parents’ house, we’ve rung everyone in his family and they have no idea where he is’’

‘’What?’’ my voice cracked half way through.

‘’I was hoping he might have contacted you, but he hasn’t. You have to come home Alice, you might be able to help’’ Wayne’s voice was shaky.

‘’Is this a joke? I’m getting really scared now’’ my voice mirrored his

‘’No, I’m not joking. Please, come back to Manchester’’. I watched the TV screen as Cristiano turned it over to the news. My jaw hit the floor and I started to cry uncontrollably at what I saw. Cristiano just looked at me in pure shock and horror

‘’Alice? Alice what’s going on? Why are you crying? Alice?’’ Wayne called from the other end of the line

‘’Turn on the news’’ I heard him press some buttons on the remote and then the phone clatter to the floor.

‘’Manchester United mid-fielder Michael Carrick, was found unconscious on the river bank near his home. His car was also found, in the river. Carrick has been taken into hospital. More updates to come.’’
