Another 6 months had passed and today Michael had a game. He’s been great throughout this entire thing. He’s never left my side unless it’s for his work. Today he had a match so he had no choice. I was at my mum and dads house with Eva.

We were watching television, Jeremy Kyle to be exact. I loved the programme, it was somewhat entertaining as the people who go on there are just hilarious and you can’t help but at least crack a smile at them. The show ended soon enough and I switched the channel to the football. United were winning 2-0 with goals from Van Persie and Evra. I grinned to myself when I spotted Michael running about sweating buckets. I’m glad I’m not in his position right now.

Eva walked back into the lounge with two drinks in her hands. She immediately dropped them and I followed her gaze to my lower area. My grey joggers were soaked. Oh god, not now.

‘’MUM!’’ I screamed. My mum came bounding down the stairs and she squealed when she saw me

‘’call an ambulance, she’s going into labour!’’ she told Eva. My mum dropped down beside me and told me to breathe in and out. It wasn’t helping so I just lay on the sofa moaning in pain.

Eva came back into the room shaking her head. ‘’The ambulance is on its way but they need to go past the area where the game is on so it might get stuck in traffic’’

‘’guys this baby is coming NOW’’ I panted

‘’what do we do!’’ Eva shouted, my dad came running down the stairs. Eva started to pace and I yelped in pain at my contractions. I wanted, no, I needed Michael. I looked to the screen to see the half time whistle blow. The players were already off the pitch. The player’s weren’t allowed their phones but they made an exception for Michael.

‘’call…Michael’’ I said in different breaths. Eva nodded and ran out the room.

‘’mum you’re going to have to do it’’ I shook my head and she turned pale

‘’I don’t know how…I’m not trained for this!’’

‘’I’ll Google it!’’ my dad screamed, thinking it was the best idea in the world. I rolled my eyes at how un-prepared we all were.

‘’mum this baby is coming NOW’’ I said through gritted teeth. Eva came back into the room.

‘’Michael’s coming, he’s getting a police escort’’ she said. I smiled slightly, knowing he’d be here soon.

‘’get a bowl of hot water, clean towels and lots of wet clothes’’ my mum said. My dad and Eva ran to get the above. My mum held my hand tight.

‘’you can do this Alice, I know you can, Michael will be here soon’’.

‘’oh shit this hurts!’’ I moaned in pain and squeezed my mums hand tighter. My dad and Eva burst back into the lounge and I heard a car door slam outside. I cracked a smile as the front door swung open and then closed again. Michael ran into the lounge, still in his muddy football kit with dirt all over him. I didn’t care a single bit. He dropped to his knees by my side and my mum let him take my hand.

‘’Michael it hurts!’’ I whined

‘’I know, I know, not long now’’ he kissed my knuckles

‘’go and wash your hands Michael, if this ambulance doesn’t come then you need to deliver this kid!’’ my mum instructed him. He nodded and dashed to the kitchen to wash his hands.

‘’hurry the fuck up Michael you’re not performing surgery jeez!’’ Eva shouted. He soon returned and resumed his position by my side

‘’I hate you Michael, I hate you Michael, I hate you Michael’’ I said through gritted teeth, he smirked.

‘’oh Jesus it’s coming now, right now’’ I shouted. Michael looked to my mum

‘’I can see the head, you need to push Alice, push for 20 seconds!’’. I nodded and started to push for my life, I gave up after 13 seconds

‘’it hurts so bad!’’ I screamed

‘’come on don’t stop now, your almost there baby’’ Michael said

‘’I can’t Michael it hurts too much’’ I whimpered

‘’Alice Edwards this is your son and I know this isn’t the way you wanted to bring him into the world but it’s happening none the less and it’s happening now so you need to give it one last push!’’ he said encouragingly. I nodded and pushed and pushed until I couldn’t push anymore.

Suddenly, all my worries and fears disappeared as a beautiful cry filled the living room. The sound was heavenly as Michael wrapped my child into a warm towel that Eva had brought down.

‘’congratulations Alice, it’s a boy’’ Michael had a permanent smile etched onto his face as he handed the little bundle to me.

‘’hey there little cutie’’ I whispered, stroking my little boy’s tuft of hair.

‘’he’s beautiful’’ Michael grinned

‘’isn’t he just?’’ I smiled.

‘’have you thought of a name?’’ my mum asked quietly. I looked to Michael who looked at me.

‘’Jacey’’ I said. My mum and dad both smiled

‘’that’s a lovely name, what about his middle name?’’. A sad smile came on my face, not because of my son but because of his middle name

‘’his middle name is Duncan, after grandad’’ I held back the tears, well, for a few seconds, then they fell. They fell from my parent’s eyes as well.

‘’Jacey Duncan Edwards’’ I repeated in my mind. It was the perfect name for the perfect child. All that was left now was to face Cristiano.
