I was awoke early the next morning to the annoying and repetitive sound of the phone beeping. Michael was still sleeping soundly and I had no reason to wake him, so I silently slipped on some shorts and a t-shirt and tiptoed down the stairs. As I reached the phone, the screen displayed the words ‘7 new messages’. I groaned and dialled 121 for voicemail.
‘’Morning’’
‘’Shh!’’ I put a finger to my lips as Michael sauntered into the lounge. He came and stood behind me, resting his chin on my shoulder. The phone beeped and we both listened intently.
‘’MICHAELLLLLL WHERE YOU AT BOY!?’’ Wayne.
‘’MICHAEL I’VE DRA, I’VE DRANK ALL YOUR BEERS BUT THERE’S STILL SOME LEFT IF YOU WANT SOME?’’ Rio hiccupped.
‘’WE’VE FIGURED IT OUT THAT-‘’ they’re all so drunk.
‘’THAT YOU AND ALICE ARE GETTING JIGGY LAD!’’ Patrice slurred.
‘’GOD BLESS ALICE, I BET HE’S AN AWFUL SHAG’’ Luis laughed loudly in the background.
‘’GET IN THERE MIKEY BOY! BUT USE PROTECTION’’ Robin.
‘’DON’T LISTEN TO HIM, NAME THE KID AFTER ME! Ow, shit I’m gonna throw up…’’ Was the last message from Tom Cleverley.
I set the phone down and Michael just laughed behind me.
‘’They’re such idiots’’ he chuckled and walked into the kitchen.
One of Levi’s footballs was in the corner. Michael flicked it up and started doing keepy-uppies with the ball. I spotted on of Jacey’s blankets in the corner. I smiled sadly. I missed both my boys so much, especially Jace. He’s been with Cristiano for around a month now and it was really hitting me hard. I don’t know how people can do this, be apart from their children for so long. I missed them both so bad.
I sighed, unknowingly. Michael dropped the ball and came over to me, his blue eyes locking with my green ones.
‘’You miss him don’t you?’’
I just nodded. He sighed and embraced me. It took me a few seconds to find the strength to hug him back. I buried my head deep into his chest and closed my eyes. I thought about the first ever time I held Jacey, and the first time I took him home. The first time my parents held him. All the times Levi’s played the ‘older brother’ role. And then all the times Michael’s been there. He’s always been there for all of us. I couldn’t do this without him. He’s my rock.
‘’He’ll be back tomorrow, and Lees coming home today, that’s good’’ he whispered into my ear. I nodded and pulled away from Michael’s grasp. ‘’Hey, I have something to show you’’ He grinned and pulled me into the office.
I perched on the end of the desk and Michael began to rummage through some draws. He eventually pulled out an envelope and handed it to me. I peeled it open and slid out the contents.
Four tickets to Bora Bora.
I just looked up at Michael who seemed to be really happy with himself, judging by the smirk etched onto his face.
‘’So, are you-‘’
‘’I love you’’ I whispered, hugging him tight. He just laughed before hugging me back.
‘’I love you too. You like them then?’’
‘’What do you think?’’ I looked up at him with raised eyebrows.
‘’Levi helped me choose where to go. I asked him and he said ‘those houses in the water’. So I assumed this is where he meant’’ Michael chuckled.
‘’Oh Michael,’’ I smiled and sighed happily and he smiled, resting his forehead against mine.
I slowly leant in and then quickly kissed his cheek before running up the stairs.
‘’Alice!’’ Michael laughed and came bounding after me, skidding around the corners of the house.
‘’Michael!’’ I mocked, locking myself in the bathroom. I heard him enter the bedroom. He gently rapped on the door.
‘’I love you, but I’d rather take a shower by myself’’ I giggled and turned on the water.
‘’But what if I object?’’ I could tell he was smirking by his tone.
‘’Then take a shower with Patrice!’’
