When Peter woke up, he already knew he was in trouble when he spotted mr. Stark's face. The man's brows were furrowed and the usual softness after Peter had been injured didn't shine in his mentor's eyes. That wasn't good.
He was in the medbay once again, after having saved a family of four in a shooting in a mall. He had pushed the family away and gotten hit by three bullets in the process. Whoops. So it was to be expected that Tony wasn't so happy; Peter had probably disturbed him from whatever the man had been doing after all.
"What were you thinking, Peter?" Tony hissed as he glared at Peter, who shrunk further into the soft pillows. "I'm sorry, mr. Stark, but, those people were getting shot at and I didn't have any other choice but I was too slow, and-" Peter began rambling, only for Tony to cut his rant short. "Jesus kid, stop talking so much. You shouldn't have jumped in front of those people, their lives aren't worth more than yours, and I'm sick of you almost dying every other week."
"But-"
"No buts. You won't do that again. Am I making myself clear, Pete?" Tony said sternly, grabbing Peter's chin to meet his gaze as the boy looked away. "I can't just promise not to save people, mr. Stark. I can't just stand there and watch people get hurt!" Peter exclaimed pulling his head back from Tony's hand so that he could look away again.
"Fine. You'll get the suit back once you're ready to not be a reckless little kid, then." Tony said, and Peter's head shot up with wide, fearful eyes, and Tony hated that he was the cause of that. "What!? Mr. Stark, please don't take away the suit again, I'll be better-" Peter pleaded, but Tony didn't budge. "So you won't make suicidal decisions anymore? I'll need something more than you just telling me you'll be better, kid, or you're not getting it back."
"I wouldn't say suicidal-"
"Peter."
"..."
"I thought so." Tony said to his silence, getting up from beside Peter's hospital bed. "This isn't fair! I'm just helping people, you can't just take this away from me whenever you like." Peter yelled after Tony, frustration and anger burning in his voice, who froze in his tracks and turned around to face Peter. "Oh, but I can. And it is fair. This can't go on, and if I have to take away your suit again so that you can see what the hell I mean then I will gladly do so." Tony shot back, eyes cold as he glared at Peter intently.
"It didn't stop me last time, and it won't now."
"I know. That's why you'll be spending the last few weeks of your break here."
Peter faltered at that, staring at Tony in shock and anger. "Y-You can't do that." The boy said weakly.
"I'm Tony Stark. Of course I can." The billionaire responded with a shrug, stepping out of the room and pretending not to hear the 'asshole' which Peter yelled after him.
Jeez, he had expected the kid to be angry, he had been ready for the kid to be angry, but he hadn't expected sweet Peter Parker to cuss him out. Peter Parker, cussing at him? Tony Stark? The man whom the boy adored so much? It made Tony wonder if maybe he had made a mistake.
He shook the thought off stubbornly. He couldn't keep letting the kid get hurt, and he had told Peter so many times to stop doing self sacrificial shit, so if the boy wouldn't listen, Tony would do something about it. If the kid now hated him or not.
-
Peter was very confused about how to feel. He felt so incredibly angry at Tony, but Tony was the man who Peter loved and looked up to. So now how was he supposed to act? He wanted to yell at the unfairness of the situation, but on the other hand.. It was Tony Stark! Was he ready to mess up his one chance at earning the man's trust?
