The only thing that Tony could feel was the aching pain in his side and the fear that Pepper could be gone. God, he didn't even notice the silently sobbing kid on the floor next to him. Peter had fallen down. He was just a kid, after all.
Tony was the first one to snap out of it and just then remembered Peter. "Hey, kid. It's gonna be okay. Let's go. C'mon kiddo, we gotta move." Tony nudged Peter's arm, and Peter lazily stood up and trudged behind Tony in response.
Inside the ship, Tony got to work to get it in the air while Peter sat frozen.
--
The only thing Tony could see was endless space. The ship had given up on them in the middle of nowhere. Another thing Tony could see was how he had gotten skinny. But worst of all, how the kid had gotten so skinny. Peter's shirt and jeans hung off his thin frame, his face was hollow and dark bags sat under his eyes.
Tony hadn't known he cared for the kid, but apparently he did, because every time he saw the kid guilt washed over him. He should have never recruited the kid. He should have sent him back and made sure he didn't stay on the donut ship. But he didn't, and now the kid was here, starved, traumatized and sick on this ship stranded in space with Tony.
And even though Peter claimed he was okay, Tony knew he wasn't. Tony knew he hid in another room to cry, Tony knew he had nightmares every night, Tony knew about the panic attacks Peter tried to hide so desperately.
Today the oxygen was gonna run out. They wouldn't wake up tomorrow. The kid would never go to college and make his dreams come true, because of Tony. Because here they were, pressed against each other because of the cold as Peter spoke his last words. "I'm glad you're here, mr. Stark." "Me too, kid." And then they took their last breaths.
What they didn't see was the bright figure appearing in the endless void before them.

Pepper, Steve, Rhodey and a whole medical team were gathered outside when Carol Danvers set a spaceship down. Carol went inside, and came back with a limp, skinny boy in her arms, who the medical team immediately took over to treat.
Pepper, Steve and Rhodey looked curiously at the kid, but their focus went to Tony, who was awake and being helped by Carol to get out of the ship. The hero's cheeks were sunken, his hair was a mess and dark circles sat under his eyes.
A wave of relief was visible when Tony noticed Pepper. He hugged her before moving onto Steve and Rhodey. Just then, realization seemed to crash into him as he frantically looked around. "W-Where is he? Where's the kid? Where's Peter?" Steve tried to calm him down immediately. "He's with the medics, you should go with them too, Tony. He'll be okay."
Steve was stunned by Tony's concern about the boy, but he didn't let it show and guided Tony towards the medics.

A slow, rhythmic beeping filled Peter's ears slowly. A soft smell of mint and flowers hit his nose as his senses slowly woke up, eyes blinking open and lips parting open slightly. Once he got used to the bright lights, Peter looked around.
He lay in a white bed, in a small room with a window with its curtains closed. On his left sat a small table carrying a glass of water and a vase with colorful flowers. On his right stood some sort of machine, some of the wires attached to it leading towards Peter's arms.
Peter reached a shaky hand out to grab the water, throat burning, but his arm felt heavy and odd, making him knock the glass over instead. He winced at the sound of the glass shattering and stared dumbly at his hand.
Just then, a door Peter hadn't noticed swung open to reveal a short lady with orange hair in a ponytail and body clad in loose, light blue clothes, reminding Peter of his school nurse.
"Hi Peter, I'm Rose, do you remember what happened?" Peter lazily shook his head. "That's okay. You were in a pretty big fight and got stranded in space without much food, so your body is pretty weak right now, but it will all be okay again in a few weeks. I'll help you drink some water, okay?"
Peter nodded. The lady, Rose, Peter remembered, cleaned up the scattered glass and then helped him drink from a new glass. "Go to sleep now, and you'll be feeling better if you wake up again, okay?" Rose said, and Peter crooked out a soft 'okay' in response, after which he let his body relax as he drifted off into sleep.
--
The next time he woke, he felt something brushing through his curls gently. As he fluttered his eyes open, he recognized his mentor sitting next to his bed, reading something on a Starkpad. Tony quickly noticed Peter's awakening and looked up to meet Peter's eyes.
Tony's face immediately softened. "Hey kid, good nap?" He said, still brushing through Peter's curls. Peter leaned into the touch, closing his eyes and letting out a satisfied hum. They sat in silence for a while, only the sound of soft rhythmic beeping filling the room.
They were gonna be okay.
