Six days can pass in what feels like moments. Other times, six days can be pure hell. It can feel like a lifetime, seconds turning into minutes, minutes turning into hours. Time just slows, while everything else stays in motion.
Kori felt less shitty when she couldn't tell the difference. When she didn't know whether time had passed quickly or slowly. It made everything seem easier, the invisible weight on her shoulders not feeling so damn heavy for once. But to her, the past six days had been terrible.
Because during those 144 hours, she hadn't talked to JJ once.
A sigh billowed out of her mouth as she pulled on a pair of black joggers and a square neck rib-knit tank top. The turquoise shade was prominent against her blonde hair and tanned skin, but was quickly concealed by a half zip gray pullover Kie had given her. She didn't have much, just a few things she'd packed before decidedly staying at John B's. That'd been days ago, though, and she hadn't been home since.
But since the day had decided to be overcast, warmer clothes were a necessity. And despite having been kicked out by her parents, Kie was there for her. She always was, even if it was to just let her borrow a cropped crewneck.
Kori peered at her reflection in the mirror, another sigh falling from her lips. How had she let six days go by? She should've already apologized. It wasn't fair to him when all he'd been trying to do was save John B. In the back of her mind, she just knew the only reason JJ hadn't made the first step was because of her. He knew she wasn't ready, so he was giving her time.
But time was bullshit. And she was sick of not being able to talk to him.
Without another glance, she flipped off the light in the bathroom and made her way to the front porch. Everyone was already there, something being said about Kelce's face last night. Last night. She hadn't forgotten, but it'd slipped her mind— her interaction with Logan.
JJ suddenly whistled, pulling her from her thoughts. "Well, hello, princess." He voiced, turning back to meet Sarah's gaze.
Kori didn't know how to feel so she didn't say anything. She just leaned on Kie, the two of them more than comfortable on the couch adjacent to the porch door. "What's up?" Kie asked, voice coming out raspy and drowsy all in one.
"Shouldn't you be on figure eight with your, uh, little group of polo players?" John B questioned, pausing momentarily. "Or did you break up with Topper?"
Kori had to stifle a laugh as he grimaced.
Sarah simply nodded her head. "We're just friends."
John B met Kie and Kori's gazes, a grin flying onto his face. "Oh, he's just a friend." Then he turned back to his ex. "You have a lot of friends, Sarah Cameron."
