As they pulled up to the building, JJ jumped out, sliding the door open. Pope stepped out onto the blacktop, Kie following close behind him. In the past twenty-four hours, something had happened. They had to have talked or something.
Everyone knew what had happened the night they'd left and 'slept' on the break. It was no secret Pope was in love with her, but Kori knew Kie didn't feel the same way. They'd talked about it before. And in the past day, there had been a lot of tension. A lot of tension.
Some of that had come from JJ and Kori, considering they had been yelling at each other just under a day ago as well, but most of the tension was coming from Kie and Pope. This is why she, Kori, and John B had come up with the whole no Pogue-on-Pogue macking. It made everything more complicated, which was what was happening right now.
And no, Kori and JJ still hadn't made up. She was angry at him for what he'd done and what he'd said, and she knew he felt guilty, but she wasn't ready to make up with him yet.
"Hey, um, actually, I think I'm gonna do this one by myself." Pope stated, attention mostly devoted to Kiara.
"Are you sure?" She asked as Kori lifted her head.
"Yeah, I can handle it. I don't really need you, so..." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Oh, we're just all one big happy family today, aren't we?" JJ quipped, rolling his eyes.
Pope didn't say anything, turning back to Shady Acres. Kori let out a breath as they started driving again, putting distance between them and Pope. She really could not have the Pogues fighting on top of everything, so whatever was going on needed to be resolved, like, yesterday.
It was quiet as they drove, soft music spilling out of the radio. Within a few minutes, they'd pulled up to the familiar shops, leaving the boys in the Twinkie. Kori walked with Kie and Sarah, drink in hand— Kie had paid for both of them.
"So, like, what's going on with you and JJ? You two haven't said a word to each other since I got back." Sarah pointed out, eyes on the blonde.
"He's an idiot. And he pissed me off. That equals no talking." Kori said with a smug smile, keeping things oh so vague. "Did you ever find out why Logan wasn't at court?"
"Yeah. He called me the other night after Topper saved me." Sarah explained, taking a sip of her drink. "Ward locked him in his room. He was pissed when he found out what Rafe did, but it doesn't really matter, because apparently the cops are looking for him."
"What do you mean?" Kie asked.
"Logan said he woke up yesterday to police officers and SBI agents at Tannyhill. Shoupe said they found Rafe's fingerprints on the bullet casings. Now all they have to do is find him."
