Kie's foot pressed down on the brake, tires stopping in the dirt. They were in her dad's stolen truck, a crime that had occurred less than ten minutes ago. It'd been silent the entire drive to the chateau, but that was because Kie already knew she was dead. And her parents would be the root cause of that particular incident.

JJ opened the passenger door, jumping down into the soil below. He turned back to Kie, eyes hesitantly shifting to Kori. "This'll only take a sec. It's in the surf shack."

Without another word, he slammed the door shut, taking off for the winch.

Kie turned around to face the other blonde, head gesturing to the windshield. "Go. Tell him. I know—"

"I'm good!"

Kori's brow knit together as she sat up, eyes pinned on the image of her older brother hastily getting to his feet. He'd fallen.

"Kori,"

Her gaze darted back to Kie's, a look of understanding in her dark eyes. She inhaled with a nod of her head before opening the back door, and stepping down onto the dirt. Her feet carried her to the surf shack, eyes meeting J's as he picked up a beige bag.

"Kori, look—"

"No. Me first." She interjected, inhaling deeply as she came around the other side of him. "Jayj, you—"

All the blood drained from Kori's face as Luke appeared around the corner of the surf shack, arms wrapping around JJ. One hand was covering his mouth, the other restraining him from moving. And that's when it happened.

Something in Kori snapped.

Her eyes shifted down to the wrench sitting on the bench to her right, the tool already in her grasp as the two of them fell into the tool box on the back wall. Kori didn't hesitate. She took the remaining steps to her father, grunt spilling from her lips, and slammed the wrench into the post directly next to his head.

"Piece of shit!" She exclaimed, holding the weapon above her as JJ was released from his arms.

Whether it had been out of fear or shock, it didn't matter. All that did was that Luke's hands were raised above him out of defense. And he was locking onto his little girl's anger filled gaze.

"Do not ever touch him again. You hear me?" She asked, eyes wide.

Luke shook his head, hands remaining in front of him. "You're not gonna hit me. I'm your fath—"

"Bullshit." Kori riled, disgust quickly filling her features. "You are not my father. And you haven't been— in years. So get out."

"Karoline, just put the wrench down. It's me. It's—"
