A loud ringing noise jolted Logan from his sleep, followed by an arduous groan. He brought both hands up to his eyes, rubbing the sleep away as his alarm went off again. His hand tapped down on his phone almost ten times before he finally hit the right button. Oh, his dad was definitely going to have to make up for forcing him to get out of bed this early.

Logan turned to his phone, lifting the luminous device above his face. It was almost three in the morning. He groaned again and forced himself out of bed, pulling on his clothes he'd gotten out the night before. If he could survive an awkward day with his dad and sister's boyfriend, he could survive anything.

As he opened his door, a shadowy figure emerged from Sarah's bedroom— John B. Logan's brow scrunched together as the two teenagers made eye contact. "I think I'm gonna be sick."

John B awkwardly dropped his gaze, waiting for Logan to go downstairs first. Oh, today would just be great. Logan sighed and turned to the staircase, jotting down them with John B close behind. The two boys grabbed their things and made their way outside.

Stars still stained the night sky, stark against the obsidian hue above them. A cool wind blew by as they reached the dock. They started down it towards My Druthers, neither of them saying anything as they walked.

"Hey, look." Logan said after a moment. "I'm sorry about Topper— for how he almost drowned you, then pushed you off the Hawk's Nest. He's an asshole and I just wanted to say I was sorry. I don't have a problem with you— any of your friends, actually. And I just wanted you to know that."

John B seemed to resonate with that thought momentarily. He turned to the younger boy, nodding his head once. "Thanks, Logan. That means a lot." He paused. "And thanks for letting me use your charger the other night. You're a real one."

Logan smiled, lifting his hand up. "So we're good?"

John B mirrored his expression, but lifted his nose up to the sky as if he had to think about it first. "Um...yeah. Yeah, we're good." He chuckled, dabbing him up as they reached the boat.

The two boys began working, prepping everything for the long day ahead. It'd only been a few minutes since they'd started when Ward approached them, supplies in hand.

"Mornin', boss." John B welcomed.

"It sure is." He replied, turning to his son. "Morning, buddy."

Logan nodded his head and grabbed the cooler from his dad, setting it inside the boat. "Wish I could've slept longer."

Ward let out a short laugh. "Of course you do. It's gonna be a good day. I can feel it."

"Yeah, Guffy said he got into it pretty good just north of Big Rock." John B voiced.
