Amane carefully tended to her dying husband, Kagaya Ubuyashiki.
Her hands were gentle as she bathed him, a silent dedication to the man who had led the Demon Slayer Corps with wisdom and compassion.
The weight of sorrow was heavy upon her, the grief of losing someone she cared deeply for still fresh in her mind.
The soft sound of water making a splash echoed the room as she cleaned him. Amane dipped the cloth into the soapy bucket before applying the rag to his flaky body again.
As she worked, Kagaya's grip on her hand tightened, surprising her.
She looked at him.
Her gaze meeting his weakened but still determined eyes.
"Die..with me." His voice was faint, his words a mere whisper, but the request he made was clear and shocking. Amane gasped and felt her heart beat faster. For a moment, time seemed to stand still as the weight of his plea settled in her heart.
"Kagaya.."
The air was heavy with emotion, a mixture of sorrow, love, and the weight of another hashira loss. She could see the pain etched on his face, the struggle he was facing, and yet, he was offering her a choice, an unspoken invitation to join him beyond the veil of life. He clenched her hand tighter.
Amane struggled to respond.
Kagaya's gaze held a mixture of yearning and longing, a desire to share the final moments with the woman who had been his partner in life, in leadership, and in love.
Amane felt tears welling up in her eyes, her heart torn between the agony of losing him and the temptation of fulfilling his wish.
"Kagaya, I... I can't imagine a world without you."
Kagaya managed a faint smile, his grip on her hand loosening slightly. His eyes were filled with understanding, an acknowledgment of the choice he had laid before her.
He started to cough violently.
Amane panics. Before she can get up and grab something to help, Kagaya holds her wrist with all his remaining strength.
"I want you to know that I love you.." another cough erupted from his throat. Amane started to cry. "I will always be with you, even beyond this life."
