My heart was still aching as I packed my things up into a duffle bag. A few pictures, casual clothes, shoes, and bathroom items were the only thing that I felt were like my home. I had moved out of my apartment, thinking that Atlas would be my forever home....until retirement or death. How wrong I was....

"Want some help?" Gideon stood in the doorway of my room.

"Does anyone here knock?" I demanded, rolling my eyes.

"There shouldn't be anything here to hide," Gideon said simply.

I sighed continuing to pack.

"Give yourself a break. You just got out of Sick Bay," Gideon came over to help me pack.

"No," I almost shoved him away.

The worst thing to do then probably would've been to look into his eyes. The bright blueness of them made me dazed and I had to look away so I didn't blush.

"F-fine," I stammered, still dazed.

"Go make yourself something to drink," Gideon started skillfully packing my shoes in a particular order.

After pouring myself a glass of chocolate milk, I returned to my room. Gideon was just finishing zipping up the duffle bag.

"What the hell?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

"What? I helped you pack."

"I didn't want, better yet need, it to be packed that fast."

"You can't stay for much longer," Gideon admitted, picking up the rather heavy bag.

"Why so you don't have to deal with me?" I snapped.

Using his free hand, Gideon gently turned me by the shoulder, sighing and not replying. I set my glass in the sink as we walked out of the now-barren room. Of course the furniture and kitchen supplies stayed, but personal belongs came back with me.

"It was quite an....experience getting to know you, Keona. You need to keep your fighting spirit out there," as we came up to where Mitchell was waiting by my navy blue truck, Gideon lowered his voice. "I need you to promise me that you won't fall beneath the cracks...that you'll stay strong."

"Why do I have to leave?" I frowned.

"Are we all packed?" Mitchell called out, not allowing Gideon to reply.

"Yes," I mumbled.

"Don't look so bummed," Mitchell wrapped his arms around me as Gideon put the duffle bag in the backseat of the truck. "I'll come and visit every chance I get."

"Every chance you get?" I felt myself getting angry. "I don't even know why I have to leave! This-

"You are leaving because of Will," Irons came out of nowhere from where Gideon and I had walked out.

"Will? He would be so pissed at you right now! He'd want me to be happy and being happy right now is being here!" Before Irons or anyone could start to argue, I continued on. "Here with comrades and other soldiers that love me as their own brothers or sisters! Here with Joker and my best friend, Jack Mitchell! Even here with Gideon or Ilona, no matter how much they despise me! I'm happy here, Irons...there's nothing else out there for me."

Irons had a blank look on his face, so I couldn't read what he was feeling. I felt like I could hear my own breath in the silence that surrounded us.

"You have your parents, don't you?" Joker murmured.

"They're dead," I snapped back, my lower lip quivering. "Along with anyone else I love."

Gideon's blue gaze on my back made me turn. His eyes showed curiosity, but also something else. Was he trying to say that it wasn't true? That there were people who loved me and who I loved back?

"I'm sorry, Keona, but you must go," Irons spoke slowly.

Looking down, I licked my lip once and then turned to get into the truck. As I glanced at them through the open window, I gripped the vibrating wheel sadly.

"You know, I actually thought that there would be a chance for me here- a chance to get on with life and forget the past. But I guess I'm continuing to misunderstand people."

And with that, I left the Atlas base without another word....without another glance.

~~~
I'm so sorry it's so short, but the next chapter is going to be exciting and long!
I got a puppy guys!!! His name is Boomer and he's only 7 weeks old! He has Pitbull and German Shepard in him. (Pictured above)
Well I guess that's the good news of this week...the bad is having my grandpa in the hospital. That's a big reason why I haven't been updating....any of my stories for that matter. :(
Hope I can update soon and I promise it'll be better/longer!!!
