The base halls of Sentinel were silent as I walked to join Gideon, Mitchell, Knox, and Ilona for a small dinner. I wore a simple red dress with, wait for it, slippers. No one would be looking at my feet, so I didn't think shoes mattered. Besides, I was more tired than any of them.
"Nice shoes," Gideon growled by my ear when I entered the recreation area, mostly of soldiers.
I smirked. "Leave me alone. I'm tired!"
"No excuse," Gideon joked and I hit his chest hardly.
"Hey Knox!" I waved to the black man in control of most of the missions.
"Hey," Knox tipped his chin to me, smiling.
While Mitchell and Ilona brought out the dinner, Knox, Gideon, and I set the table with silverware and napkins. It was a simple dinner, mostly to grieve over Joker and talk about plans for the upcoming end to Irons. Everyone else in the room seemed to be doing the same.
"I've already gathered enough men," Ilona started speaking first. "I have more on their way too."
"Good," Gideon nodded.
"Systems are back online too," Knox chipped in. "We should be able to work cleanly with the computers and tracking systems."
"Weapons are pretty much all called for," Mitchell looked between everyone.
"Did you include those grenades?" Knox asked.
"No," Mitchell seemed to argue.
"Why not?" Ilona started talking.
A loud argument between the three started up rather quickly. Gideon looked across the table to me and smirked. I thought it was his regular smirk, but when I looked closely, I saw something deeper in his eyes. A small shiver made me move my shoulders, creating a larger smirk from Gideon.
Ilona bumped me with her elbow.
"What?" I looked at her and whispered over the arguing of Mitchell and Knox.
"I saw that," she whispered back and glanced to Gideon, who'd started trying to intervene with the other two.
"Saw what?" I asked.
"That look," Ilona raised an eyebrow, her accent adding to it all. "You better watch yourself tonight. He used to give that look to girls in the bar when all of us went to party. We'd find him in a good mood the next day."
"He won't do that to me," I shrugged. Even though he already has.
"Just watch yourself," Ilona teased.

"Where are you going?" Gideon asked when I passed him from exiting dinner.
Ilona, Mitchell, and Knox had already gone to bed. It'd left Gideon and I to clean up and then leave ourselves. I couldn't avoid him no matter how hard I'd tried.
"To bed," I smiled. "Where else would I be going?"
"I don't know," Gideon shrugged, walking next to me. "Can I show you something?"
"Okay," I slowly followed him as he went through the door of his room.
"Stay here," Gideon stopped me by the entrance. "Close your eyes."
