A GUNSHOT RUNG THROUGH the air. The hairs on the back of Juliette's neck prickled, feet halting. Lori stopped, too, to turn around. The thick trees provided them with no view of whatever happened.

There was only one gunshot. A singular shot. They didn't hear anything besides that. That could mean a multitude of things.

A little bit of time passed since they heard it, and they had no choice but to continue trekking through the woods to the highway.

Lori was the only one still looking behind her every now and again. Jules could tell she was worried. Worried about the unknown. "You still worrying about it?" Andrea asked her.

They all paused, some more annoyed than others to be stopping. "It was a gunshot," Lori mumbled, turned away from them.

"We all heard it," Daryl grumbled, seemingly wanting to continue moving.

"Why one? Why just one gunshot?" Lori questioned them. None of them knew the answer.

"Maybe they just took down a walker." Daryl shrugged his shoulders apprehensively, not caring for Lori's worries.

"Please don't patronize me. You know Rick wouldn't risk a gunshot to put down one walker," she snapped back, "or Shane. They'd do it quietly."

Jules sighed loudly, thinking of words to calm down the mother. "Well, desperate times calls for desperate measures. They might not have had a choice," she offered softly and quietly, voice low enough for only the Grimes to hear.

Lori looked down at her, licking her lips. "That doesn't help." Jules shrugged her shoulders, stepping back away from her. Well, she tried.

"Shouldn't they have caught up with us by now?" Carol asked quietly, looking between everyone.

"There's nothing we can do about it anyway," Daryl voiced, moving his crossbow off his back. "Can't run around these woods chasing echoes."

"Hate to say it, but I think Daryl's right. Let's just ignore it," Jules suggested, rubbing the back of her neck.

"So what do we do?" Lori asked, looking towards their temporary leader for advice she didn't want to hear.

"Same as we've been. Beat the bush for Sophia, work our way back to the highway," Daryl answered, making Jules nod.

"I'm sure they'll hook up with us back at the R.V.," Andrea told Lori reassuringly, to which the girl shot one last look over her shoulder and started walking.
