chapter twenty six. keeps getting worse﹙season three, episode four﹚
killer within
IT FELT NICE TO be an enclosed shelter for once. Even if she was skeptical of the (now) two prisoners living with them in close-ish quarters, at least they weren't sleeping in the same cellblock, right?Rick said they seemed trustworthy enough to keep alive. That is, compared to the other prisoners they had been with. The leader turned out to be a bloodthirsty psycho, who killed his fellow inmate without hesitation. He then proceeded to give Rick crazy looks and, swung at Rick with an axe. Then, the smallest and youngest prisoner didn't agree with the way Rick killed their "leader". Rick chased him off into the outskirts or the prison outside, where a group of walkers had piled wi the in the fence, and left him there to be eaten.
So, now they were down to two inmates. A guy a little older than Daryl named Axel, and a very tall darker skinned man named Oscar. She hadn't seen much of either of them, so she wasn't sure how much she trusted them. Rick had gave them another place in the prison to live, away from his group.
Jules's day had been uneventful as far as she's concerned. She sat on her cot, reading one of Dale's old books. It wasn't interesting at all, and she wanted to put it down, but she felt it was some connection to the older man that she couldn't have anymore. She'd sometimes go down the steps to Hershel's cell, talking to him about whatever came to mind.
The adults brought in the vehicles, moving on to burning the bodies of the walkers. The other inmates were trying to talk them into letting them join Rick's group, because their living conditions were horrible. Daryl was adamant about making them hit the road instead of letting them stay, but they were still discussing what they would do.
Eventually they came to the consensus that they would make the inmates pack their bags.
The sound of rushed footsteps coming up the stairs made Jules slam her book and boost up from her laid down position. Her body relaxed when she saw a smiling Beth. "Daddy's on crutches. You want to come walk with us?" she asked, her southern twang strong.
Jules offered her a grin and nod, following the blonde outside. It was a sunny day, the first time Jules had been out all day. The walkers weren't littering the concrete floor anymore, and instead were in a pile over in the grass waiting to be burned.
Lori was there also, helping the two girls (and Carl) guide Hershel down the steps leading outside. "Just take your time on these steps," Lori instructed softly.
Hershel used his crutches to bring himself forward on the pavement, saying, "You cleaned all those bodies out? It's starting to look like a place we could really live in."
