HER FINGERS TREADED THROUGH the small knots of the little girl's head. Low, staticky music played in their ears, coming from a record player that was gifted to them by their late grandmother.
"I don't want to go to the doctor's," the little girl whined, stirring in her chair. Her elder sister sighed, already having been in this same routine every year for six years.
"You have to, Rory. You know why," Jules replied, tapping her sister's cheek with two fingers. That action elicit a groan from Rory.
Jules ran the hairbrush through the girl's hair, before tying it up into a high-ponytail that Rory always insisted she did. "Blah, blah, blah. It only takes one spark to burn down the whole forest. Yes, I know, Jules."
In turn, her sister lightly chuckled, followed by, "At least you get to miss school." The record player slowed to a stop. Now the only sound in the room was the dull sound of water trickling inside of Jules's fish tank.

JULES SAT IN DALE'S camper, reading a book Dale had. It was by no means interesting, leaning more on the agitating side of boring, but there was nothing else for her to do. She couldn't stand doing absolutely nothing.
Andrea was there, too, gearing up to look for Sophia with Rick, now that Daryl was incapable. Jules tried to block out the new voice of Dale, who just stepped into his vehicle. He seemed to be concerned of the firearms Andrea was handling.
"I don't know what's going on with you and him," Dale said suspiciously, while the blonde acted aloof.
"Him?" she scoffed.
"Shane." As soon as the name left Dale's lips, the two of them swiveled their head around to where Jules slammed her book down. They must have forgotten she was right there.
"What?" she questioned the two of them. "What's going on with you and Shane?" It was that same look on Andrea's face. One of guilt as she refused to meet the brunette's gaze. Dale looked guilty, too, but for different reasons. Because he decided to discuss that now, in front of Jules.
Jules gripped the edges of the book, knowing they weren't going to oblige and let her in on the gossip that is Andrea and Shane. Truthfully, Jules would be oblivious if she didn't notice the . . . tension between the blonde and her uncle. Hearing it being almost confirmed aloud, however, twisted her stomach into knots.
