Luhence POV

When the song ended, I let go of Kyianna’s hand and gave her a polite nod.

I approached her, offering my hand.

“May I have the honor of this next dance, Mom?”She smiled brightly, clearly delighted.

“Of course, my dear,” she said, taking my hand. We moved back to the dance floor, and this time, it felt lighter—easier.

After the music faded, I escorted Mom back to her seat. Napansin ko si Kuya—kausap si Kyianna, my fiancée. My hands clenched, an unspoken irritation bubbling under the surface.

“Oh, that moron... lagi na lang nakikisali,” bulong ko, rolling my eyes.

Mom, of course, chuckled.

“I can’t believe you’re getting married soon, son. And now, in love,” she teased, her eyes twinkling.

“Mom, it’s not like I had a choice,” I said, exasperated.

“You know this was all Dad’s decision.” I sighed, hoping she’d understand.

Mom’s gaze softened. “Are you waiting for someone?” she asked, her voice a gentle nudge.

“Maybe,” I shrugged.

“Luhence, try to love her. I can see she has a fragile heart,” she said softly, her concern evident.

I bit back a frustrated laugh. “Maybe in another life, Mom,” I replied dryly.

She sighed, giving me a knowing look.

“Why are you so jealous of your brother?”

“Because he takes everything away from me, Mom. Why can’t you see that?” I shot back, frustration finally slipping out.

Before she could reply, I forced a smile.

“I have to go. Dad might be looking for you. And besides, mukhang may announcement pa siya.”

She gave me a soft pat on the cheek before heading back to Dad. I slipped into a seat near the stage, bracing myself.

Dad raised his glass, and the room instantly quieted. “Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please?” His voice boomed, the spotlight now firmly on him.

“Thank you for joining us tonight for this special occasion. I’m thrilled to announce that my son, Xandros Luhence Hawthorne, and the beautiful Kyianna Rhiannon Lancaster have decided to take a big step forward in their relationship.” His words echoed through the hall, and the crowd burst into applause.

I stood, slowly making my way to Kyianna, her eyes locking with mine. From the corner of my eye, I saw Kuya watching us, his face unreadable.

“Tonight, surrounded by our loved ones, I want to ask you something, Kyianna,” I said, standing in front of her. My voice remained steady, but inside, everything felt off. This wasn’t how I imagined asking someone to marry me.
