Chapter 8💍

Luhence POV

It had been days since Kyianna and I last saw each other after those humors and hate comments about her. The acquaintance party was tomorrow, and with the exchange student arriving soon, I've been swamped with preparations. As I was helping decorate the stage, Khairo walked over.

Pres, kailangan ka ng dean sa office,” he said, and I immediately headed to the admin building, leaving the other officers to handle the decorations.

When I entered the office, the dean’s staff greeted me.

"Luhence! Please, take a seat," sabi ng dean, pointing to the sofa.

"What’s this about?" tanong ko, genuinely curious.

One of the participants for the acquaintance search backed out after an accident last night. We need you to be the replacement,” the dean explained.

There must be someone else more suitable,” I suggested, hoping to avoid being thrust into the spotlight.

Wala na. It's either you or we risk disqualification, and we can't afford to lose to the other departments," sagot ng dean, his tone firm.

I’ll think about it,” I replied, knowing I didn’t really have much of a choice. He nodded, giving me until midnight to decide.

Paglabas ko sa office, napansin ko si Kyianna sa may canteen... talking to him. My brother, Gabriel. My jaw clenched involuntarily. I hated how easily he could make her laugh, how relaxed she looked around him.

Just as I was about to approach them, a girl with glasses blocked my way.

"Hi! Can you help me find the dorms? I got lost—your campus is huge," she said, her voice a little too sweet.

I barely glanced at her, my eyes darting back to Kyianna and Gabriel.

They were still talking, too close for comfort. Gabriel whispered something, and Kyianna laughed. The sound grated on my nerves.

Focus, Luhence. You don’t care. She can talk to whoever she wants.

But why did it piss me off so much?

"Sure, I'll help you," I said to the girl, forcing a smile. As we walked away, I caught one last glance at Kyianna.

This irritation building inside me... it wasn’t because of her. It was because I couldn’t stand the thought of anyone else being close to her.

The girl chatted away as we walked toward the dorms. She introduced herself as an exchange student from Indonesia, explaining why I hadn’t seen her before.

"I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you earlier. I've been... busy," I apologized, trying to focus.

"It's fine! Thanks for guiding me," she said with a smile. Her cheerful expression helped ease the tension in my chest a bit. I smiled back before dropping her off at the dorms.

But even as I left, the image of Kyianna and Gabriel lingered in my mind.
-----
As I walked away from the dorms, I still couldn’t shake off the memory of Kyianna and Gabriel together. It irritated me more than it should, especially knowing Gabriel’s habit of teasing me about the proposal. If you back out, little bro, I’ll gladly step in for you. His words replayed in my head, adding fuel to the fire.

I wasn’t going to cancel anything, but the fact that he always dangled that offer annoyed me.

I turned back, my footsteps quickening as I made my way toward the canteen again. And there they were—Gabriel and Kyianna, still talking. They were too close for my comfort, and his smug expression only made things worse. He must’ve noticed me approaching because his grin widened.
