Chapter 10💍

Luhence’s POV

I stood on the balcony, staring out at the city lights. It was already late, but the cool breeze wasn’t doing much to calm me down. Earlier, I had one of my men deal with the guy who attacked Kyianna. When they told me how close she was to getting hurt, I felt my blood boil.

Kill him,” I said, my voice cold and firm over the phone. No second thoughts.

No mercy for anyone who dared to hurt her. This marriage was supposed to be just for show, but I couldn’t stop myself from caring more than I should.

And that scared me.

I tried to relax, focusing on the glass of wine in my hand, but no matter what I did, I couldn’t shake the thought of her being in danger. I was supposed to protect her, right? Even if our relationship was fake, I still felt this overwhelming need to keep her safe—more than that, even.

It was past 10 PM, and even though I knew she was already asleep upstairs, the tension in my chest wouldn’t go away. She’d been staying at my house since the engagement was announced, and while I liked having her close, it was starting to mess with my head.

I headed downstairs for a quick shower, hoping it would clear my mind. As I passed through the living room, I saw her.

Kyianna was in the kitchen, getting a glass of water. She was still wearing that dress from earlier—the one that hugged her body just right.

My breath caught, and I paused for a moment. She hadn’t noticed me yet, so I stood there, watching her.

There was something about the way she moved—so effortless, so natural—yet she had no idea how much she was getting under my skin.

Before I knew it, I was standing in front of her.

She looked up, her eyes meeting mine in the dim kitchen light. She seemed surprised for a second, but then that familiar playful smirk appeared on her lips.

Gusto mo ba?” she teased, holding up her glass of water. She was at it again—playing with me like she didn’t know just how much control she had over me.

I raised an eyebrow, playing along. “Depends. Water or trouble?” I shot back, my voice low, daring her to keep pushing.

Tubig lang,” she laughed softly, though there was a mischievous glint in her eyes. “Trouble’s for later, Hawthorne.”

I couldn’t help but smirk. She thought she could tease me? She had no idea what she was starting.

Careful with that,” I warned, stepping closer. I took the glass from her hand, our fingers brushing, and the air between us seemed to crackle with tension. She didn’t pull away; in fact, she leaned into it, daring me.

But before I could take it further, she slipped away, flashing me a smug little smile as she walked past. I watched her disappear down the hallway, frustration bubbling inside me. She knew exactly how to push my buttons.

Taking a sip of the water, I tried to calm down. This girl… she was a problem I couldn’t seem to shake.

Kyianna’s POV

After leaving Luhence in the kitchen, hindi ko maiwasang ngumiti sa sarili ko. It was always fun teasing him—seeing him lose his cool, even for a moment. He was always so composed, so in control, but when I pushed him like that, it was like watching a wall crumble.
