Bangchan

Finally.

As the playback finishes, a wave of relief washes over the room. I lean into the back of my chair, Changbin and Han glancing over at me with wide grins.

"Yeah?" I raise my eyebrows, a smile plastered across my face.

"Yeah," Han nods. "I reckon it's finished."

"Just gotta re-record," I flash an awkward smile.

"What do you thin-," I hear Changbin's chair turn around towards the intern, his voice trailing off abruptly. Han and I quickly glance over at each other before looking to the back of the room, our eyes widening as we notice the intern.

I always knew interns were unhelpful, but falling asleep on your FIRST day is a bit much. Not only has she fallen asleep, she's managed to sprawl herself across the couch... to the point where her right hand is resting on the ground. I've tried convincing our manager that interns are more trouble than they're worth, but of course he's done nothing, and look at what we have to deal with now. We're not the star cast of Babysitter's Club, we're meant to be producing for fucks sake.

"I think it's safe to say she thought the track was really entertaining," Han chortled as I swear I see a puddle of drool form on the couch near her mouth.

"Well we finally figured this song out so, let's just go eat hm?" Changbin smiles, reaching for the cafeteria card in his pocket.

"But what about the chick currently asleep on the couch?" Han's eyes swivelled back over to the intern.

"She'll be all right, come on, I'm hungry." Changbin groans, kicking his legs around like an uncontrollable toddler.

"I don't know... I feel kinda bad."

"Look, you two can go eat alright?" I smile. "I need to record some new vocals for this demo anyway."

"Aren't you hungry?" Changbin questions whilst practically being halfway out the door, ready to eat already.

"Nah, I had a late lunch," I shrug. "Plus, if Ms 'Sleeping Beauty' over there ever wakes up, I can ask her for food."

"All right, your loss," Changbin gives one last glance before leaving the room as quickly as possible, Han getting off his chair, quickly following behind.

"Let me know how the high note goes," Han winks, leaving before I could even react. As the door shuts behind him, I look back to the girl again, still in the same position, the drool puddle even bigger than before. A light smile settles on my face before I turn back around to my computer and start setting up the microphone.

There's a part in the pre chorus which I've just slightly changed the lyrics of, for no particular reason yunno? It just sounds better this way, more flowy, recording it is the shitty part though. It's Jeongin's part, so naturally way too high for me, or anyone else not crazy talented to be honest. It'll just be the members seeing it, I know that, but still, the demo should be at least easy to follow. I've just got to get it over with... a shitty demo is better than no demo anyways... but whether or not the staff next door will ever recover from hearing this is a different story.

I sigh, resting my face in the palm of my hands as I prepare myself to maybe, probably... completely fuck up the first part. I slowly raise my head, my hands resting on the record button... and finally, I press down.

I need to know

Where a-AAaAre yOU

Oh fuck that.

I quickly take my hand off of the recording button, running my fingers along my jawline, re-positioning the mic with my free hand. A sigh escapes my mouth as I sluggishly press record again.

I need to know

Where a-are you

When I need you the most?

With a gentle click, I release my grip on the record button, feeling a mix of anticipation and self-doubt. Tilting my head to the side, I listen to the playback of my performance.

I mean, it's ok... strained but ok, I could've done so much better to be honest. One more try at it can't hurt right? Now that I've done it once, it should be better.

Compelled to give it another shot, I lean forward, reaching out to place my hand back on the microphone. However, just as my fingers graze the surface, a soft voice from behind startles me.

"It's good," the intern gushes shyly as I turn around to look at her.

"Hm?" I couldn't help but tilt my head slightly, prompting her to continue.

"I mean, it sounded good to me," she adds softly, brushing her hair out of her face as she did so.

"Yeah?" I smile softly back at her as I meet her gaze with a playful glint in my eyes. "Let's just hope your snoring isn't in the background."

Her eyes widen at the comment, her lips parting slightly, as if caught half way between a gasp and a laugh, playfully acting offended in response as I stifle my laughter. Without a second thought, I act on impulse, drawn by the sudden comfort I feel joking around with her. My hand reaches out, pulling Changbin's chair out from under the table, offering it to her. She nods her head passively, taking a seat and swivelling the chair around towards me. We both sit face to face, our knees mere inches away from each other as the room around us and every external noise seems to blur into the background.

"My name's Sophie," she breaks the silence as she rests her arms on the chair, exuding a quiet confidence.

"Oh shit, I forgot to ask," I cringe, turning my chair around to face my laptop again. "So, Sophie," I ventured, my voice tinged with a hint of smugness. "You wanna listen to a track I've been working on?"

"The one with Changbin and Han?" She asks gently, her eyes meeting mine as I look back towards her.

"No, just one I've been working on in my spare time," I reply, plugging my headphones into my computer and passing them over to her with a gentle touch. As she accepts the headphones, her eyes light up with curiosity and she places them over her ears.

I press play, awaiting her reaction to the song. I flash a grin as she looks over to me and nods, signalling that the song had begun, I could hardly contain my anticipation. I sit in amusement, holding back the urge to suddenly start laughing, knowing what's about to play.

I couldn't help but smile as I noticed her trying to hide a shocked expression, her eyes widening and her cheeks flushing red. Her toe taps along to the rhythm, yet, despite those subtle movements, she is completely still, her hands gripping onto the sides of the chair.

The track, being only short, reached its end and I couldn't help but watch her closely as she takes the headphones off, brushing her hair back into place.

"So?" I smile playfully as she passes the headphones over, her cheeks remaining a stained shade of red.

"You can't release that," she looks over with widened eyes, shaking her head playfully.

"Oh, I know Sophie." I chuckle lightly, a light scoff leaving her mouth.
