The highly anticipated day finally arrives. Jungkook has been increasingly nervous each day leading up. He still doesn't feel he deserves such a high honor, but everyone else feels it's well deserved and overdue. Even strangers on the street have stopped to tell him how happy they are for him. His mother has been showering him with gifts, praises, and nonstop kisses expressing how proud she is of her youngest son.
From Luna and the rest of the guys, Jungkook has received a mix of praise and teasing. They only do it because they know it embarrasses him. Once Luna realized the true significance of this honor, she began calling him her "super savior demon bunny" which of course is no less endearing to him than any of the other names she calls him.
The only person who hasn't been heard from is Minseok. While that's to be expected since he's still under supervision and unable to go out, Jungkook still thought he would have at least gotten a text or call from his father. All the years his father has been obsessed with training him to be the best and he can't even be satisfied enough to congratulate him on receiving the highest honor in all the kingdom. All that did was further prove to Jungkook that his father never really cared about anything he did or accomplished. Nothing is ever good enough for him, not even the highest honor a person can get.
But that didn't matter to him. He's in the front row watching the King give his address with Luna on one side of him and his mother on the other. He can't even fully pay attention to what the King is saying because he feels like none of this is real. At one point he dared to look behind him and he felt like there was no end to the crowd.
Luna nudges Jungkook and he realizes everyone is on their feet waiting for him to go on stage and accept his award. He stands slowly and looks at Luna smiling at him. He could conquer the universe fueled by nothing but her smile.
He makes his way to the stage where he bows to the King trying to push through his nerves. The King presents him with the medal draping it around his neck, then gives Jungkook a big hug.
"You earned this," the King whispers to him. "I'm very proud of you."
"Thank you," Jungkook says beaming with pride.
The King steps back to allow Jungkook to step to the mic and say a few things. He isn't good at writing speeches. He tried all week to write something that made sense but he couldn't think of anything. This morning he gave up and decided he would just say whatever comes to mind. Luna was powerless to stop him, not even her offer to write a speech for him.
As he stands there he can see just how big the crowd really is. There has to be at least a few thousand people out there. So many people cheering him on. So many faces. Yet out of the thousands of faces he manages to notice the one face that doesn't look quite as happy.
Minseok is in the back of the crowd with a less than pleased look on his face. Due to the terms of his punishment he wasn't allowed any closer. He tried pleading with the King stating that this is a once in a lifetime moment and he should be able to be with his son. The King wouldn't budge and told Minseok if he didn't like it he could stay in his room. It turned into a shouting match between the two and ended with the King reminding Minseok who rules this kingdom.
Minseok has been watching begrudgingly from the back feeling betrayed by the one who's supposed to be his best friend. Never mind the fact that he tried to betray the entire Kim family at one point. He's angry that Luna is able to be up front instead of him. And more angry just at the sight of Sunyoung, which is only because she scares him and being scared of anything makes him angry. He hopes that at least Jungkook will come around and give credit to the one who trained him to be what he is now.
Jungkook can see the levels of hatred and anger in his father's eyes and he decides maybe he'll just make things a bit more fun. It's not like he came with a prepared speech anyway.
