Yes, this is fully empires s1, even though Grian is here. Welp, enjoy?

The young future ruler of the swampy empire ran around in glee, playing with the other younglings. The codling royal laughed as the human children of the empire played with him.

"James."

The blonde let out a small yelp, as he turned with an awkward smile to look up at this father.

"Y-yes father?"

The cod ruler knelt to his son, gently grabbing his jaw, to adjust the smile the codling wore to be more professional.

"You need to stop playing with these dirty human peasants. You are royalty. Act like it."

The cod ruler grabbed his wrist, pulling him along back to the house. The blonde let out a small 'eep' but followed his father reluctantly.

James Solidarity-Shadow of the Cod royal house sat at the docks during dusk. A sad frown sat on his face, as he watched out at the sea, letting his feet dangle. The small cods flocked around him.

"Young codling royal, what is wrong?"

"Future ruler of the swamps, please tell us what's bothering you!"

The boy chuckled sadly, staring down at the small cods with their small voices that chattered around him.

"Just the sadnesses of a royal, with no friends to be seen. Father believes the human children are too dirty to be seen with someone of my stature. My only friend is my sister, but she is far in the kingdom of the Ocean."

"Youngling of the land and sea, please do not be sad! We are here to talk with you!"

"Youngest sir of the legged fishy royals, we are your friends too!"

The codling lowered a hand into the waters to let the cods slowly brush against his skin with their scales. "But you all are not ones who can run around like me... I like playing on the land... With others of my size. You all are so kind, but we are still different. You cod, and I a codling."

"Codboy of the royal house, is a codling friend what you wish for?"

Solidarity thought, his hazel eyes staring at the small speaking cod. "Yes, I believe so... A humanoid. My father doesn't approve of the humans, but another codling should be fine, yes?"

"Quite smart, Codling of royals! Quite clever, Young swampling!"

The young royal stared out at the water in the early morning. He felt so alone... All the little cod who would comfort him normally were asleep, or out on a swim in other areas.

He closed his eyes for a long while, just trying to ignore everything around him. The responsibility that came with being a royal. The duties expected even as a young boy. How fast he was forced to grow up.

Blub.

The small noise in the water made the codling royal smile. The cod were back- or... he thought. He glanced to the waters, expecting the small fish, but....

"W-who are you!?" The royal yelped, pulling his legs from the water.

The face that he stared at, stared back, unblinking. Another codling... Small in size, but looked to probably be around the same age as the royal, James. Dirty blonde -even maybe a bit strawberry blonde- hair sat on the codling's head, messy bangs in the front. Beady blue eyes, that held so much purpose but at the same time seemed empty. The boy's fishy tail swayed slowly.

"Grian."

"What-? Did you say grain? Or.... Green?"

The fishy boy's eyebrow furrowed, "Grian. I'm... not bread."

The royal blinked at the codling. Grian. That was the boy's name. "Oh- Uh- well... I'm..." The future ruler paused. He didn't like his name... James. He wanted a different name. He wanted someone to know him as a different name for once. Not the 'Royal James Solidarity-Shadow of the Cod Empire'. "I'm.... Jimmy." Yeah, he liked the sound of that! Jimmy!

"Timmy?" Grian tilted his head curious.

"No. I said Jimmy!"

"Jimmy.... Nah. Imma call you Timmy."

Jimmy wanted to get mad... but he couldn't ruin his first friend opportunity! "Okay, fine, whatever! Well- Grain-"

"Grian."

"Sorry, Grian. Do... do you want to play on the land with me?"

"Land...." Those blue eyes scanned towards the shoreline. "I.... can go on land...?"

"Yep! You do have legs, right? That was a stupid question, you're a codling.... Of course you have legs- well, not of course, but very likely." Jimmy blinked at the small codling. "Sorry, I'm rambling..."

"It... fine..."

"Well, why don't we play on the land! It'll be so much fun!"

"O....kay...."

He adjusted the collar of his shirt, fiddled with the sleeves, and fixed his jewelry. He combed his blonde hair, staring at himself in the mirror through those hazel eyes. He knelt down, messing with his pant leg, and shoes.

"Does this look good...?" The nervous ruler questioned, staring through his mirror at the codling who lay on his bed.

"Yeah, yeah, looks great." The blue eyed codling responded, not looking away from his book that he held above him.

Jimmy huffed, turning his head to look at the other. "Grian, this is a really important day! Can't you help me atleast?"

"Tim, you look nice. Stop worrying, it's not that big of a deal."

"Says you! You have no idea what it's like to have to go through coronation! I'm going to be the ruler of this whole empire!"

Grian finally lowered his book, letting his arms flop to either side. He sat up, leaving his book, still open beside him. "All you have to do is look nice, and smile." He slipped off the royal's bed, walking over to his friend. Grian stood on his tippy toes, biting his tongue as he fixed the front part of Jimmy's hair. "You already have been running this place, long before the lazy bum you called your father died."

"But what if I mess up-"

Grian placed a hand over the royal's mouth, shaking his head, sighing. "Timmy... You'll do fine. And if anyone laughs at you, I will personally murder them." Grian smiled widely with his sharp teeth.

Jimmy pushed Grian's hand away. "Dude- Grian, buddy, you can't murder people!"

"Why not?"

Jimmy groaned. "One, that's illegal. Two, you're supposed to be the one making rational decisions, now that you're my royal advisor."

"Whatever-" Grian scoffed, with a small chuckle, "I won't actually murder anyone, Tim. Don't worry yourself over that."

Jimmy sighed, "What would I do without you...?"
