The Battle Part 2: Dragons and Death

The heat on your skin and the smell of sulfur hit you before you opened your eyes. You could taste the soot and debris in the thick haze around you. Your eyes wouldn't open all the way, protecting themselves from the harsh new environment, but you looked to Benimaru, who studied the battlefield in front of him. He'd released your hand, but remained close to you. You could hear but not understand his whisper to Konro at his other side.

There was an uneasy and quiet stillness before the war began. The portal dropped you off just out of range, and the question lingered of who would advance first.

You body jittered in a strange surge of energy. You'd never had so much material at your disposal before. You could hear the slight hum of Beni's earpiece, before he quietly replied "Wait." He didn't take his eyes off the threat in front of you, but he directed his next question to you. "How many can you take from here? They think you're out of range." He referred to the White Clad.

You lowered slowly at his side and placed your fingertips on the ground. Your eyes widened and the gray ring glowed and expanded to fill your whole iris. "M-Most-" You whispered in disbelief.

"Take as many as you can while preserving your strength." He spoke quickly, with a warm pride that swelled your confidence. He spoke into his earpiece again. "All Fire Soldiers stand down. Firing squad across from Battalions 5 at the ready." He looked down at you as you planted both palms on the distorted earth. "Now."

The invisible pulse that shot out from your body evaporated the nearest 1,000 infernals, sucking their heat into the earth below, and leaving only puffs of ash where they once stood.

"FIRE!" You heard from the other end of the battle, followed by the roar of a demon who launched into the sky in your direction.

Joker, from Obi's Battalion, shot him down with one bullet. His body dissolved the moment he dropped to hit the earth below in your range.

Ash rushed towards you and company 7 as another 1,000 infernals vanished.

Every infernal that could fly took to the sky. The onslaught of bullets from your priestesses rained down upon them.

Another 1,000... "I- won't make it all the way across-" You spoke through labored breathing.

Beni understood. "Oze, Thor. Clear." No sooner than he spoke did an explosive amount of flame erupt in the distance.

All demons focused their attention to your battalion, allowing their unaffected infernals to buy them time on the far side of the field.

"You have 10 more seconds." His voice was gentle as he snapped for Gaku and Konro. He stepped in front of you, and they took either side. Gaku took a sniper from your back and began firing. He was an exceptional shot.

Vulcan's machine guns revved to life in Battalions 3 and 4. "She's saved us on inventory. Fire at will, Maki." He ordered company 8.

2,000 more were all you could manage in your time limit. But 5,000 infernals in less than 30 seconds was one hell of a start. "Release." You could barely hear Beni over the commotion, but you jerked your hands back from the ground.

The ash you'd collected swirled ominously above you and your battalion. Gaku smirked through the scope of the sniper. "The White Clad are scared of ya." Gaku praised.

"They should be." Konro put a hand on your shoulder. "Deep breath." He instructed.

"We can barely breathe in this shit hole." Beni snipped before he shot at an incoming demon. He tisked in disapproval at his aim, even though his target still perished. You grabbed your second sniper and began to pick off the demons 1 by 1.
