Heyyyyyy... So. One of my lovely readers reminded me that not all fic readers have read the manga (honestly, same girl, will explain below). I'd like to take this spoiler filled opportunity to explain some things that happen in the manga, and also explain what I'm changing, if you are interested!
*Big Spoilers Ahead*
First, some things we've already touched on in the fic that happen in the manga:
- Obi gets arrested. Benimaru does help get him out of jail. Beni shows up as "Moonlight". He's wearing a bunch of Konro's bandages around his head to make it look like a big moon. He also adds on random French when he speaks, even though he doesn't know what it means, to try to disguise himself. Everyone knows it's him and tells him to give up the act. He's... not the brightest (said with all the love in the world). I did not read this chapter of the manga until after I started this fic.
- Benimaru fights the Doppelganger of Hibachi Shinmon. This is a cathartic experience for Benimaru, and he has dreams about the old chief before the doppelganger shows up (which is where I got the idea for Beni's prophetic dreams... That and him being a Pisces.)
- Demons and Doppelgangers. Okay so in the Fire Force lore, Demon infernals are super strong infernals. They are "Doppelgangers", which they touch on a little in the anime so far. For example, Konro fights his Doppelganger in Asakusa the night he gets Tephrosis. According to the lore, the doppelganger is a replica of the character built off of the public's collective impression of them. As the series continues, the Demon/Doppelgangers get stronger and look more and more human, as opposed to Konro's who just looked like a big scary super powered infernal, but didn't really look like Konro. Hibachi's Doppelganger looks like Hibachi, but with charred shin and horns. I... like the horns.
- Benimaru fights his Doppelganger. Beni's doppelganger is incredibly powerful, and looks exactly like real Beni, except that one of the whites of his eyes is black. He represents the collective belief of how strong everyone thinks the strongest fire solider is... He challenges real Benimaru, and says if he wins, he'll take Beni's place as the "real deal". Benimaru agrees, and one-shot's him. (It's super bad ass, 15/10 moment) Real Benimaru then harasses his team for thinking he was so weak after this other Benimaru almost set the whole world on fire... God tier shit. But then...
- Benimaru pretty much fucks off for the final battle. Beni gets drunk in Asakusa with his people while the world ends, trusting Shinra to handle it. *Heavy sigh. Cries.*
- Arthur has a super bad ass fight against Dragon. That's it, that's the point. It'll be amazing when it's animated. It's incredibly epic.
- Literally everybody dies and the world is destroyed. And Shinra merges with his family to become a god and create a new world, which is the Soul Eater world, and Shinra brings people back to life in this new world he's created... The Mangaka made Fire Force a prequel to their other work, Soul Eater.
- Confession, I have not fully read to the end of Fire Force. I got so sad that Beni was sidelined that I just didn't pick it back up and googled the plot points. So if I am wrong on any of these points above, please let me know and I will correct them! <3
Now that we have the canon above, here are some of the changes I'm making/have made.
- Obi still get's arrested, there's just a bunch of background plot going on after Y/n goes infernal. I have not commented on the whole "Moonlight" bit.
- Benimaru still fights the doppelganger of Hibachi. No notes or changes. I really liked this in the manga. What I do reference a little bit, is to defeat Hibachi, Benimaru combines Konro's Crimson Moon, and Hibachi's Sun Wheel into one move. Gaku makes a comment at Beni about always using other people's moves during the Street Fight Chapter, and that he should have something of his own. Which I've tried to give him with the Y/n Ash powers thing. Beni made that whole ability.
- Benimaru fights his Doppelganger. Even though I love the one shot in the manga, we are doing this plot point a little differently. I thought it would be interesting to have Beni face a different version of himself from a different reality, not just what other people think of him (he's never cared about what people think of him anyway). He's up against an older, stronger, grieving version of himself. I'm hoping this upcoming content will be compelling. It's going to be intense between these two. Also... instead of the just the one black eye, I also gave this doppelganger horns because... *tucks hair behind ear.*
- Clearly Benimaru is not fucking off for the final battle, but I gave Konro a line to reference that without Y/n, that's what Beni would've done.
- Arthur still fights Dragon, but it's not as epic in the fic as it is in the Manga.
- My goal is to gradually turn this world into the Soul Eater world, not nuke the whole thing and restart. I really tried to make Y/n's abilities align with the Weapons and Meisters of Soul Eater, which is why Benimaru can now literally reform her and use her as a weapon. Weapons and Meisters also have some soul connection stuff going on, which right now I've primarily used for sex. :D This is fanfiction. How could I not use that kind of ability for sex.
