"Good morning!" You opened the curtains to the guardhouse cheerfully.

"Y/n!" Konro dashed down the stairs. "How are you feeling?" He touched the back of his hand to your forehead.

"I'm fine! Why?" Your warm voice laughed as you tipped your head at him. "You alright?" Your tone grew more serious.

"Gaku told me you passed out. Beni was already burnt out by the time he got to you... It was a day." Konro's exasperated worry was tender and kind.

You kissed his cheek. "I'm here to make breakfast and give you a little break." You turned towards the kitchen.

"Where's your other half?"

You pulled out the flour, butter, cream, an egg... "On his way. He's grabbing some berries for a quick jam. We're doing scones and tea." You leveled off your flour and tossed it in a bowl. You glanced back at a still tense Konro. "Konro...?"

"It's nice to have you making breakfast here again." He replied warmly.

"Well, I still work here, don't I? I was getting offended that you hadn't scheduled me for a cooking shift." He looked over your shoulder. "Would you sit down, please? You're hovering." You implored him to relax.

He did. He watched you as you pulled on the cooking apron you and Beni shared, then glanced at the military that passed the front door. "I miss how things used to be. Quieter times."

"We'll get back to that." You promised. "Do the girls have school today?" You folded and shaped the dough into a large round, before you cut it. "How many of the hikeshi are coming by for breakfast do you think?"

"The girls do, and all of them if they find out you're here."

You glanced to your limited ingredients. "... we don't have enough cream for that."

Konro chuckled. "Gaku will make himself scarce once he sees Beni's here, if that helps your count."

You slapped down one of the scones into the large Dutch oven. "What the hell is wrong with them?"

Konro looked you up and down, attempting to determine which of them you were mad at. "Did you ask?"

"I asked Gaku. He said Beni's mad that my temperature dropped while in Gaku's care. I doubt he'd be that unreasonable, but Beni's not talking about it either so-"

"Did Gaku mention where Beni found you and Gaku?"

Your head turned and gaze narrowed at Konro, right as the girls yelled "WAKA!" from the top of the stairs.

"I'll take that as a 'no'" Konro mouthed to you.

Beni ducked in with a large basket of dark berries and brought it straight to you.

"Thank you." You leaned in to kiss him. "Mmm. You taste delicious." You mused.

"You said their season's almost up. Don't want to waste any." He popped another fresh one in his mouth, offering you the overripe ones for the jam.

"Come 'ere." You whispered as you pulled him back by his vest for a deeper kiss.

"We need him to do our hair!" Hina commanded into the kitchen.

"Right. Sorry girls." You released him. He gave your ass a squeeze before he let you go.

"What's for breakfast, Y/n? It smells good!" Hika peered into the kitchen, awaiting her turn.

Akio popped his head into the guardhouse. "Y/n's here??"

You waved your wooden spoon at him.

"I gave you idiots the day off today." Benimaru reminded his subordinate.
