Chapter 58

Kagura's POV

Kagura sat quietly outside the castle, staring up at the sky. The moon shone in the night, seemingly mocking her.

She scowled, glaring up at it. She hated how she was still stuck with Naraku, the man she loathed with every fiber of her being. But, as much as she wanted to leave, she was unable to as he still held her heart.

Suddenly, she spotted some of Naraku's demons flying off. Her eyes widened in surprise as they escaped the barrier, knowing that they had never been able to do so before. Having seen this, she wondered if Naraku was weakening, and even wondered if she could escape herself…

Kagome's POV

She sighed, watching as Inuyasha irritably sniffed at the ground. However, as much as she was used to it by now, it never took this long.

"Damn it," Inuyasha growled finally, sitting back on his knees. She raised a brow, confused at what the problem was until Shippo stepped up beside him.

"Could it be because it's close to the full moon?" He asked, cocking his head to the side. Inuyasha let out a groan at that, and Kagome understood why. Tonight was the night he would lose his demon powers and become a human.

"Inuyasha, we should lay low for a while…" Kagome murmured, approaching the half-demon.

"Not when Naraku's scent is nearby!" He snapped, a growl of annoyance leaving his throat. A look of surprise crossed everyone's faces, but Kagome felt a twinge of concern as well.

Inuyasha's POV

He glared at the door in annoyance, impatient and irritable. He hated that he was hiding instead of out finding Naraku, but a part of him knew that this was the best idea. If Naraku knew that he was weak on this day, things could go much worse in the future.

Suddenly, he heard voices outside. One he identified as Kagome, and the other two he knew were male voices. They sounded familiar as well, and he soon placed them as the two dorks that followed Koga around.

Annoyed, he got up to his feet and walked outside, ignoring the shocked looks on the wolf-demons' faces. He shot them a glare before turning to Kagome.

"Come on," he huffed. "Let's go save that mangy wolf then."

"What? No!" Kagome argued, taking a step forward. "You can't go like this!"

"Th-that's Inuyasha?" One of Koga's goons asked. The half-demon turned to them with a death-glare, causing the hair on the back of their necks to rise.

"If you tell anyone about this, I will snap your arms in half," he growled threateningly. The two wolves nodded rapidly, their eyes wide and fearful as he turned back to Kagome.

"Come on then," he huffed. Kagome opened her mouth to say something, but she was quickly interrupted.

"Inuyasha, we'll go," Sango chimed in. The four two turned to see Sango and Miroku, the demon-slayer in her armor holding her hiraikotsu. Inuyasha narrowed his eyes, but didn't seem prone to arguing.

"Stay here, keep yourself safe," Miroku told the half-demon. "Sango and I will take care of it." Inuyasha huffed.

"Fine."

Your POV

"Where on earth is Naraku?" You murmured to yourself, covering your mouth and nose with your shirt. The miasma seemed stronger than usual, and you couldn't help but cough the further you went into the castle.

"Y/n." A soft, monotone voice spoke. You turned to see Kanna holding her mirror, her expression blank as usual.

"Do you know where Naraku is?"

"Kagura is gone," Kanna stated, ignoring your question. "Naraku's demons have left."

"They have?" Your brows furrowed in a mixture of surprise and confusion. The barrier was meant to prohibit them---as well as yourself---from leaving the castle. Could the barrier really have weakened so much? Could you leave before the stench of the miasma got to you, killing you as it had the servants of the castle?

Kanna nodded. "The miasma will get to you," she stated matter-of-factly. "Naraku would not wish for you to die. You must leave." And with that, Kanna turned and left the room, leaving you on your lonesome. You couldn't help but agree with her, and after another bout of coughing, you turned and made your way towards the entrance of the castle.
