"Alexis"

"Alexis"!

"Alexis Adams wake up this instance"! My English teacher Mrs. Owens scolded.

"I'm up, I'm up" I said grumbling.

"To the office" she said pointing towards the door. "I will not have a student sleeping in my classroom".

I got up from my seat, gathered my textbooks up and walked out the door glaring at my teacher.

Mrs. Owens had always hated me, I didn't exactly know why, she would just always give me dirty looks, give me C's when I deserved A's. She would make rude comments if I didn't answer correctly and she would almost always send me to the principals office.

Let me tell you right now, being a leader on a sports team and getting into trouble do not go together nicely.

I could get in serious shit with my coach if he finds out I've been getting into trouble with my teachers. He could bench me, take away my captaincy or even kick me off the team.

Not to brag or anything, but I know I'm good and I do not think Coach Walker would ever even think about kicking me off the team but the thought still scares me.

I come from an elite family of soccer players. It's a family sport. I grew up playing with my older brother Andrew as my parents watched us through our backyard window. The two of us used to do that all the time once my dad got home from work. Sometimes he would even join us.

That all stopped when my mom and Andrew were coming home from a match and were struck and killed by a drunk driver.

I was broken. I stopped playing soccer for a good 3 years. Until my best friend Becca introduced me back into the game and it reminded me of all the great memories I had with Andrew and my mom while I played with the very ball I had under my foot.

Yes I miss my mom, and yes I miss my brother. But the past is in the past and I can't turn back time.

All I can do is keep my head held high and hope for the best in the future.

That's why soccer is so important to me. I can't screw up now. I have scouts coming to watch me at next weeks game and if I mess up, I may not get that scholarship I want and I won't ever make my mom and Andrew proud. Then all my hard work to get where I am now will all be for nothing and I can't have that.

I broke out of my thoughts when I entered the principals office.

Mr. Smith sighed as he saw me. "Really Alexis? Sleeping in class? This is the eighth time this month"! He said as I sat down in the uncomfortable brown chair in front of his large desk.

"I'm sorry Mr. Smith, I've just been training these past few nights until 1 or 2 in the morning and I'm just super tired" I lied.

Mr. Smith is such a gullible man, for a dude in his late 50's, you would think he would be smarter than he is. But no.

"Alright Alexis, I'll let this one slide, I won't give you a detention and I won't tell Mr. Walker either. But if I see you in here one more time this month I'll be speaking to the coaching staff about benching you for the playoffs.

"What? No! Mr. Smith sir you can't do that! If you take me off the team I won't be able to play for my scholarship"! I explained.

"Then get your act together Miss, no more getting into trouble" he said turning back to his computer.

"You can skip the rest of the period, class ends in 10 minutes and Mrs. Owens is probably still angry with you anyways" he said not looking away from his work.

Thats the thing about Mr. Smith, he may be a pest sometimes, but he's pretty chill for a principal.

"Thank you Mr. Smith, I promise this won't happen again" I said walking out of the office.

Since English was my last period of the day. I headed towards my locker to put away my books.

Once the bell rang, I headed out to find Becca and found her standing beside her locker.

"Hey sorry I'm a little late" I said. "I just got back from Smiths office for sleeping in class".

" Alex! You know that you could get into deep shit with Coach if he finds out about that"! She said as we walked out of the school.

"Yeah I know" I sighed. "But he told me he'd keep his mouth shut about this one" I said looking into Becca's blue eyes.

"Alright Alex, if you say so". She said, still sounded skeptical.

Becca was the goalie of our soccer team and she was also my best friend. We met when we were 5 on our first day of school and we instantly clicked.

Becca was there for me when my family broke apart and was always there for me when I needed her, as I was there for her when she needed me.

We were each others rocks.

"Ok, there is a lot I need to talk to you about" she said as we walked along the sidewalk.

"Can you come over" she said looking at me.

"Yeah sure, but can you tell me what it's about"? I asked laughing slightly.

"There's 4 new kids in my Math class and let me tell you, they are the most gorgeous boys I have ever seen in my entire life".
