A little while later...

As they escorted Riko out of the school and defeated the cursed users, Kuroi suddenly went missing, having been kidnapped by unknown assailants. The three remaining individuals were left to ponder their next course of action in light of this new development. Suguru closed his eyes and allowed his mind to wander back to the events leading up to Kuroi's kidnapping.

"There's always a chance that the worst could happen. You're much faster than me, so go on ahead! Hurry to Riko's side!!" Kuroi told Suguru. He recalled the urgency in Kuroi's voice and the determination in his eyes as he relayed these words. As Suguru opens his eyes, he utters, "I'm sorry. This was my mistake."

"Really? I don't even think this counts as a mistake." Satoru nonchalantly commented.

"I underestimated how much our enemies would value Kuroi-san to get to Amanai." Suguru claimed to Satoru.

Satoshi speculated on their opponents' next possible move. He proposed that "They'll probably arrange an exchange for her, trading Amanai for Kuroi-san or threatening to kill Kuroi-san if we don't hand over or kill Amanai..." However, Riko's reaction caught his attention as she clenched her fist in agony upon hearing the possible scenarios.

"But we have leverage in any negotiations since we have Amanai. As long as they set up the location for the deal, we can make it work out. I'm taking Amanai back to Jujutsu High now. We can have Shoko or someone stand in as her body doubles." Satoru proposed to Satoshi and Suguru.

"Wait! I'm going to this deal, too! I still can't trust you three yet!" Riko blurted out.

"Huh!? You're still saying that after all this, you-" Satoru began to rant as he was cut off.

Riko's voice quivers as she speaks, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Even if you do manage to save her," she says, her hands clutching at the fabric of her skirt. "What if Kuroi doesn't return in time? What if I have to assimilate with Tengen-sama before I can even say goodbye to her?" The weight of her words hung heavy in the air, and a palpable sense of fear and uncertainty lingered.

Satoshi stood in front of Riko, taking note of the worried expression etched on her face. He understood the gravity of the situation; Riko was about to merge with Tengen-sama, but she had yet to say goodbye to her loved ones.

To calm her down, Satoshi stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her, feeling her tense muscles relax as he hugged her. "Don't worry too much," he whispered soothingly. "We won't have to wait long for Kuroi's kidnappers to contact us. You'll have enough time to say farewell before you merge with Tengen-sama." Satoshi's words seemed to comfort Riko, who took a deep breath and leaned into him.

"Since the kidnappers will eventually reach out to us if they seem smarter than we would expect, and bringing you with us is likely to hurt Kuroi-san's chance of survival, then we will leave you behind," Satoru warned her.

"All right. That works." Riko replied, determined to see her mother figure.

"In exchange, if you get scared partway through and want to go home, we'll just ignore you. Bear that in mind." Satoru warned.
