It felt like the world was spinning. I was sitting on my couch, trying to process the stuff I just heard. I stared at the wall like there was no thought behind my eyes.
"Miss Sloane? Are you there?" The words of the officer in front of me broke my thoughts.
"Hm? Oh yes, I'm here." I mumbled. The red and blue lights filled up my living room. I looked at the car and read: "Mithian Police Department".
"I'm so sorry, Miss Sloane." The police officer said as he scratched his blue, orc skin. I weakly smiled. He nodded at me and left. The police car silently drove away. I quickly reached for my phone. I dialled Faith's number. I kept the phone closely against my ear.
"Hey Ruby!" Faith's enthusiastic voice echoed through my head. I burst out in tears.
"Oh sweetheart! What's going on?" She asked.
"I-it's my dad. He's m-missing." I tried to tremble as little as possible. Faith gasped.
"I'm on my way." Faith hung up after that.
It only took her about 8 minutes to arrive at my house. She was all sweaty. She must've cycled really fast. I looked at her with red eyes. She threw her keys on the ground and gave me the biggest hug ever. I broke down again.
"Oh sweetie! What happened?" She asked. I could hardly breathe or talk.
"A-a police officer c-came here and said dad was m-missing." I said, crying. Faith rocked me back and forth, as she stroked my head.
"Would you like me to stay over?" Faith asked. I nodded. She took me upstairs. I changed into my pyjamas while Faith made her bed. I crawled under my blankets and said goodnight . I tried to sleep, but my mind wouldn't let me. I looked at my watch. 3:49. I closed my eyes, but immediately saw flashes of memories of my dad. I eventually fell into a difficult sleep.
I woke up startled. I had a nightmare, but I couldn't remember it. I got out of bed, with some difficulty. I walked down the stairs. When I got there, I smelled eggs. I stumbled towards the kitchen, seeing Faith there, baking eggs. I smiled as I sat down at the table. Faith turned around.
"Hey, sunshine!" she happily said. I slowly waved back. Faith walked towards me with the pan and a plate. She put the plate on the table and dropped the egg on it.
"Sausages are on their way." She said. She walked back to the stove. She tied her blue hair in a bun and went on cooking.
It didn't take long before she finished cooking. Faith sat down on the other end of the table. I looked at her pointy ears.
"Faith, did you get another piercing?" I asked. She giggled and nodded.
"Didn't your mother say you weren't allowed any more?" Faith rolled her eyes.
"She did. But why should I care?"
"Because she's the right hand of the Elven queen." I mumbled. Faith went silent for a little.
"Fair point. But still, she still scolds me, no matter what I do." Faith said.
"Looks good though." I admitted.
"Thank you!" Faith enthusiastically said. I smiled at her.
Knock knock. I stood up and walked towards the door. I opened it and looked down. There was a dwarf standing.
"Post!" He said in a high pitched voice. I thanked him and took the letter he was holding. He mumbled something and walked away. Post-dwarfs. Always so grumpy. I rolled my eyes and closed the door.
"Who was that?" Faith asked as I entered the kitchen again.
"Post-dwarf." I sat back down on my chair. I opened the letter. It was written in a messy handwriting. A handwriting I unfortunately knew.
