Chapter 19: What Really Happened

Prism

Right after we finished our lunch, Ayara and I volunteered to wash the dishes. Now, we were stuck in an awkward silence. We are in a kitchen sink, no one even dares to initiate a conversation. She was quiet for a whole time, and so was I. Sa loob ng katahimikan, may mga pagkakataong nagbabanggaan ang mga siko namin kasabay ang tunog ng mga pinggan.

I asked Tita Betty if she saw her and she said, Ayara went outside and she didn't know why. Kagaya ng nasabi ni Lola kanina, she will stay afterwards at mag-aaral kaming dalawa.

I ready my study table. I opened my laptop. Inilapag ko sa lamesa ang mga textbook. All what I need to review was already on the table.

It's her.

"Saan ka nagpunta?" I asked.

I waited to say something. My eyes dropped on her hands, she was holding a sampaguita that I think she randomly picked outside. That's maybe a reason kung bakit nawala siya bigla.

"Sorry," were her first words. I raised back my gaze at her. Her eyes speak the unspoken emotion. This time, kaya na niya akong tingnan nang diretso.

A smile ran across my lips to assure her. "It's alright. You did nothing wrong."

"Yes, I did," she contradicted. "'Yan ka na naman. Please, don't say that. Don't justify my mistakes. Every time na nagso-sorry ako, 'yan na lang palagi ang naririnig kong sagot mo kahit hindi naman talaga okay at all. Prism, it's completely fine with me if you wanna make me feel bad because of what I did, that's what I deserve. That's my fault."

"When I said it's fine, it's fine.

"Then, I'm so sorry for making such an unthinkable act. I'm really ashamed of what I did." "I make a scene. What worse, hindi ka nakapag-take ng exam, sana hindi na lang kita pinilit na puntahan ako. I know how much time you spent your whole night just to review for that exam pero dahil lang sa topak ko, umalis ka pa sa room. I'm really, really sorry," she apologize, looking regret. "Hindi ka ba magagalit doon? Feel free to be mad."

Itinuro ko ang mukha ko. "Do I look mad?" I asked and smiling.

I know you're hurting."

She nodded.

"You're just a human, you can do better. Your feelings are never invalid and you don't need to be sorry because of your emotions. And I'm here to understand you. Kaya 'wag nang mag-sorry, okay?" I didn't let my smile leave my face.

"But the disturbance I caused you, sorry talaga."

"It happens and I said, that's okay. Let's move on."
