"Rin, give that shit back, I swear!"
Rin clutched Jirou's song writing book to her chest, squealing as she collapsed onto her best friend's bed. The poor, short haired girl whined, ferally grabbing Rin's ankles and tugging her to the edge of the bed as she shrieked.
"Please! Just let me finish reading the lyrics, I swear, I'll stop teasing you!" The younger of the two complained, suddenly bursting into loud laughter as Jirou began tickling her ribs. "Kyoka!"
Jirou couldn't hide the endeared smile that lit up her face, finding Rin's playfulness endearing even if it were at her expense.
Giving up, the ear-jack girl collapsed onto her bed next to Rin, sighing as she lazily gestured to her book.
"I'll give you ten more seconds to read it and then we will forget this ever happened."
Rin nodded eagerly before bringing Jirou's book to her face, her eyes darting across the song lyrics.
After a forgivingly long ten seconds, Jirou snatched her book out of her hands before slamming it shut, stuffing it under her pillow. With her lips tucked into her mouth, Rin stared up at the ceiling with Jirou, the two girls quietly laying side by side on their backs.
What had started as a nice hang-out session – in reality, Rin had entered her room unannounced and listened to Jirou play her acoustic guitar on her bed – had turned into chaos. It was normal for Rin to look through Jirou's song writing book, but she hadn't anticipated to find that Jirou had written a love song about an electric blond in their class.
"What?!" Jirou abruptly sat up, finding the heavy silence between them unbearable.
Rin slightly sat up, her elbows digging into the mattress as her hair laid out around her.
"What do you mean 'what'?" Rin questioned.
Jirou turned to her, folding her arms. A pink blush adorned her face.
"W...What do you think? I know you have something to say." Jirou stammered, playing with her earphone jacks now.
She rolled her eyes as Rin sent her a cheeky smile.
"I thought we were going to, quote-on-quote, 'forget this ever happened'?" Rin teased before pinching Jirou's cheek. "So? You finally want to talk about your crush on Denki?"
Jirou's pink face turned a few shades deeper.
"'Finally'?" Rin let out a rambunctious laugh.
Sitting up properly, Rin leaned her back against the wall.
It was obvious, even to people like Shoto who was a little bit unobservant in social settings, that Kaminari and Jirou had been crushing on each other for the whole year. Sure, it kind of slipped under the radar a few times at the beginning, but it was almost a given that something romantic was going to occur between the two at some stage.
"Our classmates expected you and Denki to be the first couple in 1A if it hadn't been for Shoto and I." Rin began, "to be honest, I've just been waiting for you to bring up the obvious tension between the two of you."
Jirou pouted, looking away from her best friend.
"You think he likes me back?" Jirou asked. "You know Denki; he flirts with all the girls in 1A, even with a few 1B girls too."
Rin sighed, shaking her head.
"It's the fact that he doesn't flirt with you that makes it different," she sent her a sweet, genuine smile. "He's cautious and even a little timid around you. He hangs onto everything you say as if it means the world to him. Besides, even if he doesn't reciprocate the same feelings back, I think it's really sweet how much he cherishes your relationship."
