Stuck
Chapter 19

Will's blurry eyes were shaking along with the rest of his body as he read the papers in his hand over and over again.

He'd made a terribly unforgivable mistake this time.

The contract, the one for the new mega big project, he'd fucked up writing it.
He remembered telling himself a dozen times to not include Mr. Walton in the process. The man couldn't work right now, so with Mr. Carpenter's permission, he'd excluded the other CEO from all the meetings needed for this contract's period. But now... the contract had the man's name on it too and it was already signed by the other party so there was nothing to be done. He'd screwed up. Now Mr. Walton had to come back to work whether he was capable of doing so or not. But why? How? How could Will mess this up? He made sure not to mention anything of the other man so when exactly did his brain malfunction for him to do this? Had his fingers typed this on autopilot like the rest of their contracts?

Tears were falling from his face uncontrollably as he sat there listening to the CEO's phone conversation that was on speaker. He didn't dare go in so he'd just been standing there for the past... god knows how many minutes.

The phone call had started with a slapdash 'what' from the man and then a woman's voice had passed through the closed doors.

"Come take Daisy. I have a business trip and I need to leave in six hours." A woman's voice said, tone just as hostile as his boss when answering the call.

"Don't go. It's that simple." The man said with that calm, yet authoritative tone that made one lose the power in their knees in fear. He'd never heard him talk like this before. He didn't like it.

"Fuck you. Come take your daughter. She's been here for over two weeks now."

"I'm busy. Get a nanny. And don't call me." Then Mr. Carpenter hung up the phone without waiting for the woman's reply.

The phone rang again.

"She's sick right now. I can't leave her with a nanny. Joe, be a fucking father for once and take care of your child yourself instead of relying on your fucking husband."

"Watch your tone when you talk about Theo." Mr. Carpenter said calmly, however there was real threat behind his words.

"Should I call him then? Your dear Theo? Should I tell him you're willing to leave Daisy in a stranger's care for days?"

"Call him. But then you can kiss your monthly allowance goodbye."

"... You're truly a terrible person, Joe. I wonder how that man hasn't realized it yet." The woman hissed into the phone and hung up.

During the whole conversation, and really pretty much at any time, only the mention of Mr. Walton could get the man to react. It seemed like... it seemed like the tattooed man was all Mr. Carpenter really cared about. Nothing and no one else. Not even his own child. Will didn't know how to feel about that but also, it wasn't his position to have any opinion on it. Especially not now.

Will's bottom lip was shaking so much, his chin followed too. He felt awful. He basically had forced Mr. Walton back to work with this fuck up. Where had his head been? He wasn't one to make such a huge mistake.

He heard footsteps and before he could pull himself away from the door and hide somewhere, the man opened the door and got taken aback upon seeing Will there.

Mr. Carpenter's eyes widened with worry. "Willian, what's wrong?" Hands cupped his face immediately, wiping down a few of his tears but... seeing his boss, he was overwhelmed with both the anxiety of being scolded badly and the comfort the touch brought him at the same time. It was all too much for him and he broke down right there and then, sobbing loudly as he tried to explain the situation.
