Stuck Chapter 10

He had no idea for how long he stood there, spacing out. He didn't want to walk any further into the house. There was a wall he had been trapped against right there in the living room and their bedroom felt as unsafe for him now as the dark blue room.
To be frank, Will's offer had been enticing but he didn't want to bother the boy any more than he already had. He was still standing by the front door, contemplating going in or leaving, when his phone rang in his pocket. It was his little girl.

"Hi, princess."

"Daddy! Are you okay? Why did mom pick me up today? Did you fall sick again?" The sweet voice was so concerned.

"I'm fine, angel. I just got busy with work. I'm sorry." His eyes started welling up again but he bit on his tongue to control it. "How are you? How was your day?" Sliding down the wall, he pulled his knees up to his chest, pressing the phone against his ear, as he focused on Daisy's voice talking for minutes upon minutes about every little detail of her pre-school day. The girl didn't know, but she had just saved him from yet another breakdown. The tears falling down his face didn't count because they were actually good for him; letting the pain out.
When they said their goodbyes half an hour later, Theo knew for sure he did not want to go inside. He just... hated this house entirely now. He had to buy a new one but in the meantime, he needed a place to stay and that meant he had to actually go into their bedroom to get the keys...

The security man was beyond surprised to see him there.
"Good to see you again, Mr. Walton!"

"Good afternoon." He had forgotten the man's name already.

"Will you be staying? Do you need me to send the cleaning staff?"

"Yes, that'd be great. Thank you."

Getting inside the small elevator, Theo pressed the 10th floor. When he was last in this tiny box, he never thought he'd come back and definitely not in the condition he was currently in caused by none other than the very person who saved him from this place. That day, after not having answered any of Joe's many calls, the man had ran to him, broke down his door, and took him to the hospital. It was that very day Joe decided on getting a divorce from his wife. The day when he finally chose Theo over a comfortable, socially accepted life. Despite the many bad memories in those years, he did feel safe here. Because in the walls of his apartment in this building, no one ever hurt him. No one but himself. Which is why his therapist told him never to go back but here he was. It wasn't on him since he had no other place to go.

The cleaning staff was right behind him, making him a clean spot on one of the chairs first before they got to ridding the place off its excessive dust. Theo simply sat there watching them do their work. It was better than drowning in his head, so.

His phone kept on ringing and he soon turned it off. Right now, he cared about nothing. The only thing he wanted was for these people to be done, to leave, so he could take a shower and sleep for the next few days. His wrist kept on stinging but he didn't even look at it. He didn't want to see what Joe had done. If he did, then it was proof that all of it had actually happened. That the one person he thought would never hurt him... had. The worst part was, despite his actions, Theo found himself defending Joe to no end.

He did it because he was mad worried.
It was the best he could think of at the moment.
He's only human. It's not like he hurt my wrist on purpose.
He said he was going to be back in a few hours. He didn't know I'd have a vivid episode like that or he wouldn't have done it.
He was so worried because he loves me that much.
I should forgive him because he did it out of worry for me.
He was worried about the possibility of losing me so I should cut him some slack just this once.
