There were many things Nara had prepared him for but walking in on his bosses kissing each other passionately hadn't been one of them. And it wasn't like he entered without a knock! They just didn't care about his presence enough to stop the... action!
William knew they were married. Everyone who was interested in the corporate world's news in the entire world was aware of that fact. However, they had never been spotted being intimate. On the outside, they literally looked like coworkers and nothing else.
William didn't know what was more unsettling. Witnessing the out of place kiss or watching Mr. Walton lose all tension in the arms of the other man. Mr. Carpenter's hands were holding onto his face quite possessively and it was utterly shocking that Mr. Walton seemed to be the one... uhm... 'submitting'...
Shit, he really needed to stop reading gay novels for fuck's sake!
It took them a few seconds to stop and in that small window of time, William found out the scary man wasn't so scary when he looked all relaxed like this. When Mr. Carpenter separated their lips, put the leg that was resting in between the thick thighs of the other man on his chair back on the floor and stood straight, one look showed Mr. Walton's eyes a little out of it, his gaze still lingering on his husband.
Clearing his throat, he tried to get these lovebirds out of their zone.
"Your lunch is here.""Oh. You don't have to announce that, William, but thank you."
Mr. Carpenter was really polite. In all the times they had met for work before, there had never been a time where the man looked anything but unbothered and calm. Unlike a certain someone who would lash out at the smallest thing!
The two were polar opposites, not only personality-wise but their looks too.
Mr. Walton, just about a centimetre or so shorter than William, was quite buff and covered in tattoos, and if those weren't enough to make him even more intimidating, the slit in his left eyebrow completed the job!
He had his chocolate brown hair in a buzz cut, and even though his eye colour — honey brown — was very innocent, his constant glare demolished the colour's affect altogether. William still remembered the very first time he saw the man.It was at the cafe of Peter's company. Mr. Walton was sitting alone, drinking coffee while working. The sun was shining just right on him that day and the light made him look even more handsome than he already was. That had been his first impression and he found himself wishing he had the courage to go give him his number because the man was just his type! But soon he found out, once again, that the more handsome one is, the more trash their personality becomes. It was the fastest he had ever gotten over a crush in his entire life!
Mr. Carpenter had no tattoos. He had a masculine lean body and his dirty blond hair was always brushed back neatly. He was taller than William by a few centimetres and his green eyes had never been anything but gentle the few times he actually spared any human being a glance.
Honestly, William felt quite dull standing in front of two of the hottest men he had ever seen up close. He was tall, yes, but that was really the only good thing he got going on for him. Boring black hair and a pair of blue eyes that everyone had, it was nothing in comparison to the pretty colours those two were rocking. Sad. Maybe he should hit the gym again...?
The door opened behind him and snapped him out of his trance. Upon seeing the old lady sliding the rolling food tray inside, Mr. Walton jumped out of his seat.
"What are you doing here, Elizabeth?" The deep voice sound excited despite the extreme frown.
"I work here, Theodore." The old lady snickered, side-eyeing the boss before she went to pick up one of the plates.
William reached a hand to take it from her but Mr. Walton stopped him and proceeded to put everything on the coffee table between the sofas himself.
"You're on a paid break. You need rest. Do I need to remind you that you had a literal heart attack not two weeks ago?!" The man was actually worried to the point it got him visibly frustrated.
Elizabeth made him stop as she cupped his face, having to reach her wrinkled hands all the way up to the height difference.
"My poor boy. I know you don't eat anybody else's food. You've already lost weight. How can I stay at home when I know you're not eating properly?"The man took the lady's hands in his, bringing them down his face and squeezing them gently in his hold before letting go.
"You need to rest if you want to keep on cooking for me for a long time, Elizabeth. Please, go home."Sighing, the lady nodded. "Alright alright. But I'm coming back from next week. I get lonely at home all by myself."
"I told you to stay at ours. You're just too independent to accept a nice offer."
Was this... Mr. Walton actually caring?! Damn! The demon did have a heart!
"Please! Had I come to your house, you would treat me like an old woman. I still work out, you know!" Elizabeth pulled her sleeve up and flexed her bicep. Yep, William had to hit the gym again asap!
"Yeah yeah. Go home." Mr. Walton sat down, taking a greedy first bite of the delicious-looking sandwich. As if expecting Elizabeth to be smiling down at him lovingly, he looked up and... smiled. He ACTUALLY FUCKING SMILED. What kind of sorcery was this??!?!?
Elizabeth left after telling them both to leave work early for once. He was about to leave too when Mr. Carpenter called him.
"Go down for lunch. And if there's anything you're allergic to, tell the kitchen's employee for them to prepare a suited meal for you."Smiling a little awkwardly, he waved his hand. "I'm not feeling hungry right now. Then,... Enjoy your lunch."
Mr. Walton simply raised his eyebrow while chewing and Mr. Carpenter looked at him dead in the eye.
"You've been here since 9 and with all the work, I don't think you've eaten anything. It's not healthy. Go eat your lunch.""I, uh, get an upset stomach when I'm very stressed and starting a new job is very stressful for me so I can't eat anything right now if I want to keep my suit clean. If... you know what I mean..." Honesty was the best policy.
Mr. Walton stopped eating and just stared at him with a look William couldn't decipher. It was too much so he excused himself and left the room fast.
The sound of the two talking kept disturbing the turmoil he was going through at the moment. He hated people knowing he had severe anxiety issues. And he was anxious now worrying whether the look on the man's face meant he now deemed him unfit for the job because of this. And what was he to do if they fired him? Peter wouldn't have him back. And getting fired from this company meant he would not get another job that easily in the field. Oh god, he messed it up by being honest again. No no no n-William felt his stomach turn and he was fast to leap his way to the bathroom. He threw up the warm water and honey he had carefully drunk in the tiniest sips half an hour back before he started dry heaving. He managed to keep his clothes clean throughout the shitty ordeal. Feeling like chewed up gum, he made his way back to his desk. There was a bottle of apple juice sitting there next to the monitor.
"Are you okay? You're very pale." Nara whispered, expression full of concern. "Theo said apple juice helps with nausea."
Grabbing the drink, William's eyes widened in surprise. "Did he leave this here?!"
"Mhm." The woman nodded. "I told you he's nice."
"I... thought he might fire me because of this." He murmured, squeezing the drink between both palms, staring at it.
"Pft! He would never."
And just like that, William's anxiety evaporated into thin air. The apple juice tasted marvellous, too!
