A.N: Heeeeeereeeeeee I come again after 9187482827482 years with a new chapter!
Joe's steps echoed in the vacant parking lot as he made his way to his car. The silence inside the car was deafening as he sat there, drained of all energy, with his head pressed against the head rest. Fear was bubbling from the pit of his stomach but he was trying his best to reassure himself that all would be okay. Sliding both hands on the wheel, he felt intruded by the sound its leather made. Sitting upright, the deafening silence was once again broken by the friction between his clothes and the leather of the seat. The car was on now but it wasn't making a single noise. Somehow he wished it did. Turning on the radio, he switched a few times until he found the most absurd song and tried to focus on it as he drove home. He wanted to arrive home fast but he also didn't want to go home right now. It was a paradox he couldn't explain. Well, he could, but he was avoiding admitting it.
An hour later, having prolonged the route by driving aimlessly in the city, he walked in to the beautiful view of his family watching a movie together. Standing there, zoned out, he missed the way Theo's smile was replaced by a frown upon seeing him so perturbed.
"Joe?" Theo pulled him out of his head.
William, who hadn't noticed his presence until then, whipped his head toward him. His expression fell as well. Did he look that bad right now?...
"Hm?" He hummed, loosening his tie."Everything okay, baby?" Theo asked, giving the popcorn bawl to William as he sat up, a bit alarmed.
"Yeah, I'm just tired. I'll take a shower first." He said half of his sentence already having turned away toward the steps. He'd just taken all his clothes off when Theo walked in and wrapped his arms around him from behind. His husband pressed a kiss on his shoulder before putting his chin there, looking at him."What's wrong?" The man said quietly, his voice as gentle and caring as it could be.
Joe put both palms over the other's, looking down at them, wondering if those hands would still be there on his body in a few hours from now. The fear had now reached all the way to his throat, silencing him with its firm grip. He shook his head. That was all he could manage.
"Baby," Theo pulled his arms away as he circled him and stood in front of him, cupping his face to make him make eye contact. Even then, Joe's eyes lingered down for a few more seconds before hesitantly looking up at the hazel eyes. "Talk to me." He was so worried now."It's just... today's therapy was heavy." It was the truth but it was also not the entirety of it.
Theo could see right through him. The fact that he was bullshitting him, not saying what it was that was eating at him. But the understanding angel that he was, his husband simply nodded with a soft smile before kissing him on the cheek. "I'll prepare your dinner. I can bring it here for you if you want to take a bath and relax a little." His hands kept on caressing Joe's arms up and down as the beautiful eyes kept looking at him with the light that was reflecting in them, intensifying the gold rays inside them.
Joe shook his head again. "A shower will suffice."Theo pressed his lips in understanding as he nodded. "Okay, my love." He then left and Joe had wanted to be alone to sort his thoughts out but now he was standing in a horrifying silence again, his brain telling him this was a prediction of the possible loneliness that was to come. The fear was now almost at his nose, making it sting, making him scrunch to get rid of the sensation there.
The conversation between the 3 was interrupted as he walked into the living room. Daisy looked at him, then at Theo and with a nod from the man, his daughter ran to him, hugged his waist, before running to his room. The 3 of them told her not to run on the stairs simultaneously but she was gone before she could listen. Sighing, William's focus fell on him as the boy smiled and tapped the space next to him on the couch. Theo was sitting on his other side with both legs crossed on top of the couch. Joe didn't have the guts to sit by them so he walked to Daisy's hot pink bean bag chair. His husbands looked at him confused. William sat up properly and looked at him with all the worry in the world and Theo turned to be fully face to face, head tilted to figure out what this was about.
