SOCIAL SOLITUDE: ARISTELLE
Wednesday, October 31 2018
The next time I opened my eyes, Spencer's were closed less than an inch away, his long lashes almost brushing the bridge of my nose.
He mumbled something incoherent and the corners of my mouth threatened to turn up. Another minute passed. Two of his curls were hanging down on his forehead and I had to stop myself from pushing them back.
He sighed again. "Aristelle."
I froze. It was kind of muffled, but I was sure that's what he said.
Holden Spencer was dreaming about me?
I lay still for a moment to see if it would happen again, then risked moving his low curl away from his face. He stirred and as soon as I thought it was safe again, his dark green orbs peered down at me.
A lazy grin took over his sleepy features. "Hey."
"Hi."
"How'd you sleep?"
"Great, actually," I marveled. I didn't know how or why it changed tonight, but I wasn't going to question it.
"I'm glad. Do you know what time it is?"
"Um..." I twisted my body around to check the digital clock on my nightstand. When I did, I realized his right arm was under me; it curled around my back. "Almost four."
He groaned, hesitating. "I should probably go. I have football practice Tuesday mornings and I need to take a shower."
"You can take a shower here," I offered. I hoped he didn't hear the desperation in my pathetic voice.
"I don't have any clothes here, silly. And smelling like—" He paused to inhale my scent. "—vanilla and peaches wouldn't be very manly of me."
I raised my eyebrows in playful offense. "But coconut is?"
"Hell yeah, it is." He grinned back at me.
I slid out of bed and let my white train follow me to the kitchen. "I have some stuff you could wear, too, but suit yourself."
"Are you okay?"
"Never better." A complete lie.
"Tell that to your face."
I rolled my eyes, cracking open a Red Bull. "That wasn't very nice." I couldn't help but notice the way he watched my tongue dart out to lick the excess liquid from my lips. "If you aren't, I will," I said, referring to the shower, opening the dresser in my closet.
"Are you actually going to put on clothes when you get out?" he teased.
"Oh, please. I know you like me like this."
"You know nothing."
I tried to mock his accent. "Tell that to the boner that wouldn't stop poking into me all night."
He was unfazed. "How do you know it was a boner? Maybe I just have a ginormous schlong."
"Sure, let's go with that," I snickered.
"Do you wanna see?" His voice got louder, on the defense. "I've seen your goods. It's only fair."
"Pass. Plus, it was dark in here when you saw me. The most you saw was a silhouette."
"I have to disagree."
"Just admit I give you boners and go take your shower."
I turned my back to him, fumbling with the tag on the sweatpants I chose so he couldn't see how big my grin was. A few seconds passed and even though I didn't hear his retreating footsteps, I wondered if he left the room already.
Suddenly, my hips were being gripped and pushed down onto the mattress. My gasp was deafening.
Spence hiked up the white fabric that clung to my body and lifted my waist slightly to meet his.
"What are you—?!"
"Shhh..." He slowly dragged his hand up my thigh. One swift movement was all it would take for him to expose me. My left cheek was smushed against the bed and Spencer's nose was buried in my dark hair, inhaling. My heart pounded in my chest as his right hand got closer to my waist. As soon as I felt like I was truly suffocating, he pulled away.
Somehow I knew he was smirking. "Which one of us gives the other a boner?"
Fighting my jelly legs was difficult. I wanted to lay there and revel in the feeling he just gave me. Using every ounce of strength I had, I rose to my feet and caught him by the shoulder so he would face me again. A new surge of surprise took over the smugness that had settled in his expression.
I grabbed his neck and planted my lips on his.
